Ansys Manager information

What is an Ansys manager?

An Ansys Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the use and implementation of Ansys simulation software within an organization. Their duties typically include managing simulation projects, coordinating a team of engineers or analysts, ensuring efficient use of Ansys tools, and helping integrate simulation workflows into product development processes. They may also provide technical guidance, training, and support to team members, as well as communicate with stakeholders to align simulation efforts with business objectives. Ansys Managers play a key role in optimizing simulation processes to improve product quality and reduce development time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Ansys manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Ansys Manager, you need a deep understanding of engineering simulation principles, proficiency in Ansys software, and a relevant engineering degree. Experience with simulation tools like Ansys Workbench, CFD, FEA modules, and industry certifications such as Certified Ansys Professional are commonly required. Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills are essential for effectively guiding teams and collaborating with stakeholders. These skills ensure accurate simulation results, efficient project delivery, and successful team performance in complex engineering environments.

What are some common challenges Ansys managers face when leading simulation teams, and how can these be addressed?

Ansys Managers often navigate challenges such as aligning simulation workflows across multiple projects, ensuring team members stay updated with evolving Ansys software capabilities, and balancing project deadlines with simulation accuracy. Effective communication, regular training sessions, and establishing standardized best practices within the team can help address these issues. Additionally, fostering a collaborative environment encourages knowledge sharing and problem-solving, which is essential for managing complex engineering simulations.

What is the difference between Ansys Manager vs Mechanical Engineer?

AspectAnsys ManagerMechanical Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Engineering, certifications in simulation toolsBachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, relevant certifications
Work EnvironmentTeam leadership, project management, software oversightDesign, analysis, testing, and development of mechanical systems
Employer & Industry UsageEngineering firms, manufacturing, aerospace, automotiveManufacturing, product design, automotive, aerospace

While Ansys Managers oversee simulation projects and coordinate teams using Ansys software, Mechanical Engineers focus on designing and analyzing mechanical systems. Both roles require engineering backgrounds, but Ansys Managers emphasize project management and software expertise, whereas Mechanical Engineers concentrate on technical design and analysis.

Avidyne

Job description

If you are an engineer looking to design and build actual hardware that flies, rather than just specifying it for others to construct, this position may be ideal for you.

As a Mechanical Engineer at Avidyne, you will be actively involved in the electromechanical packaging of our cockpit displays. Your responsibilities will include taking your designs from CAD through the DO-160 qualification process, ensuring they meet industry standards for safety and performance. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work alongside seasoned engineers who are dedicated to collaboration and excellence in the field. This role offers a unique chance to apply your skills in a hands-on environment while contributing to innovative aviation technology.

Why Avidyne

At Avidyne, we exist to make aircraft easier to fly.

Our mission, Simply Flying, guides the products we design and the way we work. We build avionics that are high-quality, intuitive, and straightforward to install - helping pilots focus on what matters most.

What You'll Do

Mechanical Design & Documentation

Design complex electromechanical devices, electronics packaging, and human interface components for aircraft cockpit displays using advanced 3D modeling.

Develop and maintain engineering documentation - drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and design records - to support certification and production.

Design sheet metal, machined, cast, and injection molded parts with attention to structural integrity, weight optimization, and manufacturability.

Create and maintain design models and assemblies that integrate electrical, thermal, and mechanical subsystems within avionics products.

Verification & Environmental Testing

Plan and execute design verification activities, including structural analysis, thermal evaluation, and functional testing of mechanical assemblies.

Perform environmental qualification testing in accordance with DO-160 and other applicable aviation standards, documenting results and resolving nonconformances.

Build and evaluate prototypes to validate design concepts and support iterative development cycles.

Analyze test data, identify root causes of design deficiencies, and implement corrective actions.

Production & Manufacturing Support

Collaborate with manufacturing teams to transition designs from development to production, keeping design intent intact and manufacturability optimized.

Interface with sub-assembly suppliers and contract manufacturers to communicate design requirements and resolve production issues.

Apply design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles to reduce cost and improve quality.

Support production troubleshooting by investigating field issues and recommending design or process improvements.

What You Bring

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline, plus 2+ years of relevant industry experience (or a Master's with less experience).

Applied knowledge of mechanical design principles - stress analysis, material selection, thermal management, and structural mechanics.

Skill in 3D CAD modeling and design documentation using SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent tools.

General familiarity with manufacturing processes: sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, casting, and injection molding.

Awareness of DO-160 environmental testing standards and FAA/EASA certification requirements for aviation electronics.

Collaboration & Communication

Ability to execute assigned design tasks independently and deliver accurate, well-documented results.

Clear written and verbal communication skills for working across engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams.

Organized approach to managing design deliverables and priorities in a fast-moving development environment.

Bonus Points

Experience designing avionics hardware, cockpit displays, or human-machine interfaces for aircraft applications.

Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation.

Familiarity with additive manufacturing techniques and their application to prototyping and low-volume production.

Exposure to FAA Technical Standard Orders (TSOs) or EASA certification processes.

Private Pilot License (PPL) or a demonstrated personal passion for aviation.

Ready to Apply?

If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you - apply today and help us build the hardware that keeps pilots safely in the air.
