The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Associate II to join our Columbus or Akron offices.



In this role, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical and plumbing systems across a diverse range of building types and market sectors. Working closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to system design, coordination, and construction documentation while ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.


You will collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and field personnel to help deliver high-quality projects from concept through construction. This position offers an opportunity to grow technical expertise while contributing to complex, high-visibility projects within a collaborative and dynamic engineering environment.

Project types include Healthcare, Federal, Justice, K–12, Higher Education, Corporate Commercial, Retail, Multifamily & Assisted Living, Hospitality, Cultural & Historic, Data Centers, Residential, and Military/DoD facilities.



What You’ll Do:

As a Mechanical Associate II, you will assist in the development of mechanical system designs, perform engineering analysis, and support project teams throughout the design and construction process. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers while taking increasing ownership of design tasks and coordination efforts.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design of mechanical and plumbing systems for a variety of building types and industry sectors.
  • Develop mechanical system layouts and construction documentation from concept through final design phases.
  • Coordinate with field staff, architects, contractors, and engineers to ensure compliance with project specifications and design intent during construction.
  • Perform engineering calculations, system sizing, and technical analysis to support project development.
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to develop efficient and innovative design solutions.
  • Assist with preparation of construction drawings, technical reports, and project documentation.
  • Support multidisciplinary coordination with electrical, structural, civil, and architectural teams.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to other staff as appropriate.


What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical and plumbing system design required, 7+ years of experience preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) required.
  • Experience designing HVAC, hydronic, controls, and plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary, and venting systems.
  • Knowledge of medical gas and fire suppression systems is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
  • Have working knowledge of Navisworks, National CAD and BIM Standards, Revit features and annotation styles, surfaces, line styles, sheet set manager and drawing setup.
  • Experience with load calculation software such as Trane Trace or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with applicable local, state, and federal codes and standards governing building system design.
  • Ability to develop written specifications using AIA MasterSpec or SpecsIntact preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
