Position Overview

Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), a Member of The Texas A&M University System, is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Animal Science. This position is a nine-month appointment, with 25% research and 75% teaching responsibilities. The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded, multidisciplinary research program in livestock genetics/breeding, nutrition, physiology, behavior, microbiome and/or health and well-being. A competitive, negotiable salary and benefits package will be offered, that will be commensurate with the candidate's level of expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Teach three courses (or 9 credit hours) each Spring and Fall semesters.

  • Teach an undergraduate course in animal breeding and genetics.

  • Additional courses will be a mixture of undergraduate and graduate based on departmental needs with courses being related to the candidate's area of expertise.

  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and thesis projects.

  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Research

  • Develop and maintain an active research program.

  • Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals, books, or other recognized outlets.

  • Secure external funding through grants, contracts, or other sponsored programs.

  • Present research findings at regional, national, and/or international conferences.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, industry partners, or other institutions when appropriate.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal research regulations (e.g., IACUC, biosafety, IRB).

Service

  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees.

  • Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment.

  • Engage in professional service (e.g., journal reviewing, grant panels, professional organizations).

  • Support recruitment and outreach efforts.

  • The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain close-working relationships with food-animal industry stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

Education - Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Food Science, or closely related field from an accredited university.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic and applied research experience in livestock breeding, genetics, nutrition, physiology, behavior, animal well-being, production management, animal health, or related research areas are preferred.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.

  • Evidence of scholarly achievement.

  • Commitment to high standards of academic professionalism and a positive attitude for teamwork.

Additional Information

A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee.
