Job Title: Lab Assistant

Type: Part Time, Hourly

Department: Testing Services (Biotech)

Job Summary:

The part-time Lab Assistant supports the Testing Services Lab Technicians and Technologists in daily laboratory operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follows all policies, protocols, and SOPs
  • Cleaning of labs and biosafety cabinets
  • Equipment verification and maintenance
  • Restocking of lab supplies daily/weekly
  • Ability to work in a hood, measure liquids and weigh ingredients, use a pipette, work with chemicals and maintain a sterile environment
  • Generic reagent generation, as needed
  • Maintain paperwork as per all related SOPs and Quality Manual
  • Archive and management of electronic records
  • When experienced and competent, position may:
    • Record incoming samples as needed
    • Labeling of flasks, plates and slides as needed for weekly assays
    • Assist in performance of some routine testing as assigned
    • Handling inoculated cultures, (virus, bacteria, fungal)
    • Assist in training of new personnel if needed
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Treats others with mutual respect and regard
  • Completes work with accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail and exhibits constancy and reliability
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Good verbal and information technology skills (MS Office)
  • Ability to work in a time sensitive environment

Desired Qualifications and Experiences:

  • Previous work experience in a lab environment

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • College level course work in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics preferred

Physical Requirements for the Job:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 40% of the time. (Standing and/or sitting)
  • Frequently moves lab materials weighing up to 40lbs

Pay Range Data:

  • This position pays $18.00 per hour.

Schedule:

  • This is a part-time job during business hours. Additional hours may be available during school breaks and summer schedules. The incumbent needs to be able to work at least 3 to 4-hour blocks in the morning or afternoon between 6:00am and 7:00pm. Good attendance is paramount.
