DATCP currently has an opening for a Dog Seller Inspector (Companion Animal Inspector- Objective) positions within the Division of Animal Health in the Bureau of Field Services.
This is a field-based position and routine statewide travel is required. The selected applicant can select a headquarters in one of the following counties :
Marathon, Portage and Wood County.
Qualifying candidates are not required to live in a county headquarter location. However, reimbursement for commuting to or from the employee's assigned headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Routine travel within an assigned territory and throughout the state for assigned work and emergency response is required.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for the enforcement of animal health laws, regulations, and standards. For an assigned geographic area of the state, the position spends the majority of its time inspecting records, animal facilities and equipment for compliance with animal health laws, rules, and regulations. Through routine activities, the position will educate owners, dealers, markets, etc. and seek voluntary compliance with animal health rules. The position also investigates complaints or violations of animal health rules, and identifies entities engaged in unlicensed activities. The position will also issue and document verbal and written warnings as well as make recommendations for prosecution of animal health rule violations, issue quarantines, refer cases for further compliance actions, assist with disease investigation, testing, sampling, epidemiology, and trace animal movement. The position will also be responsible for basic maintenance and transportation of equipment as needed.

Salary Information
The entry level Companion Animal Inspector - Obj is in schedule-range 05-14 and starting pay is $27.62 per hour.
This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.
Job Details
At DATCP, we strive to deliver efficient and effective programs and services to Wisconsin agriculture, consumers, and businesses. The Department has numerous on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities, unique to each Bureau.
These OJT opportunities include direct experience and practice through collaboration with co-workers/supervisor, peer mentoring, and job-specific training modules. OJT for our Animal Health Inspector's include: Humane Officer Training, job shadowing and on the job shadowing, program guide, policy and administrative code review.
Conditions of Employment:
DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicants being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.
A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicants prior to an offer of employment.
Possession of a valid driver's license and the eligibility to drive a State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle* is required
*In order to be authorized to drive a State vehicle the candidate must meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy, which are:

• Must have a valid driver's license;
• Must have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience;
• Must be 18 years of age.

Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:

• Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
• Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
• Suspension or revocation of driver's license.

Routine travel of approximately 80% of the time is required, including occasional overnight travel.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. is required to restrain or assist in restraining animals, during physical examinations and/or during emergency deployments.
There is extensive walking, climbing, and standing for long periods of time. Outdoor work is required 12 months of the year. The employee will encounter inclement weather, temperature extremes and aggressive and/or diseased animals while performing their work assignments. The employee will be required to conduct physical examinations of dogs (checking for mobility, matting, dental and nail health, etc.).
Personal safety equipment including, but not limited to, hard hats, hearing protection, foot protection, respiratory protection and eye protection are to be used as prescribed by the Animal Health Division. Safety precautions are necessary around live steam, hot water, chemicals, electrical circuitry, mechanical equipment, confined spaces and high elevations.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:

• Experience conducting and documenting inspections (i.e., facilities, records and/or equipment for compliance with policies, regulations, laws; interviewing parties; preparing inspection reports; etc.).
• Experience conducting and documenting investigations (i.e., fact- finding, case development, gathering evidence, chain of custody, etc.).
• Experience with providing training and/or education on policies and/or procedures.

In addition to the minimum qualifications above, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:

• Experience taking enforcement actions (follow-up inspections, issuing notices of warning, referring cases for further action, etc.).
• Experience in animal handling, agriculture, veterinary care, and/or canine related industries.
