Job description

Holy Cross Cathedral of Loganville, Georgia, the Cathedral Church of the Anglican Diocese of the South, has begun a search for its next Dean/Rector. We believe that through diligent prayer and the application of biblical wisdom our great God will lead us to the man who, as the Dean of the Cathedral, will not only serve as rector and senior pastor of the Cathedral's congregation but also influence and support other parishes within the diocese.
Background and Leadership Experience
Holy Cross Cathedral is seeking an Anglican priest who is the man whom God calls to this ministry. In addition, we seek the following qualifications:
  • Ordained priest in the Anglican Church in North America
  • Has earned an M.Div. If the degree was completed at a non-Anglican seminary, the candidate should have completed a Certificate in Anglican Studies or have adequate experience and formation within the Anglican Church.
  • Has at least seven years of experience as a rector or senior associate, preferably at a church with an average Sunday attendance of at least 150, or otherwise has had commensurate pastoral and organizational leadership experience
  • Proficient and skilled manager who has overseen budgets of $1M+
  • Track record as a visionary leader and effective administrator
  • Navigates and leads both traditional and contemporary worship with equal comfort level
  • Ably mentors assistant priests and effectively leads a ministry team
  • Possesses affinity and vision for the Dean's seat: to work alongside ADOTS staff and create a strong link between the Cathedral and the Diocese
  • Assents to and supports, as outlined by the ADOTS Canons, the diocesan position on women's ordination, which affirms the ordination of men only to the priesthood and both men and women to the Diaconate.
  • Basic skills needed:
    • While expertise in technology is not necessary, should be tech savvy and open to efficient use of technology in ministry and the church's life
    • Effective communication, both spoken and written, in both public and private settings
    • Can manage time and human resources for maximum effect and benefit to the Cathedral
    • Ability to conceive, manage, and bring to fruition ministry initiatives that benefit the church and conform to the church's overall vision

Biblical and Anglican Orthodoxy
The next Dean of the Cathedral must be deeply committed to Scripture and its historical, orthodox interpretation. This orthodoxy will be reflected in preaching and teaching that is rooted in Scripture and manifests its authority. The Dean must be committed to exegetical preaching and teaching from Scripture with application to parishioners' daily lives rather than topical, "self-help," or social/political commentary. Even so, current events and issues should be addressed from the pulpit (often encouraging prayer), thus connecting biblical teaching and the world and culture outside the four walls of the church.
Preaching should follow the Anglican lectionary. All worship services will be conducted in conformity with the Anglican tradition, the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, the Creeds of the church, and above all, the Scriptures. Preaching should not be excessively formal or academic/theological but should seek to apply the Scriptures to the needs of the congregation. The Dean must be a man passionately committed to the Word of God.
Holy Cross Cathedral
Holy Cross Cathedral in Loganville, Georgia, serves as the Cathedral Church of the Anglican Diocese of the South. The parish is home to a vibrant and generous intergenerational congregation. God has richly blessed the Cathedral with a spacious campus and with many other spiritual and material gifts that support Christ's ministries and mission.
Like the spirit-led early church in Acts we are focusing on unity as we build on the foundational gospel values of prayer, discipleship, fellowship, and participating in the Eucharist. The faithful membership of Holy Cross eagerly awaits the man God has chosen to fan into flame Jesus' vision for His church.
