Choice Hotels, one of the worldโ€™s largest lodging franchisors, has an exciting new opportunity as a Software Engineer III โ€“ Mobile App in the Mobile Apps Engineering, Digital Experience team. The Mobile Apps Engineering team builds and delivers the Android and iOS apps that connect millions of guests with Choice Hotels every year. These apps are a highly visible and revenue-generating part of our digital experience, enabling guests to book stays, manage reservations, and engage with our loyalty program. As a key member of this team, you will take ownership of complex Android development projects, help set technical direction, and mentor junior engineers โ€” ensuring our apps continue to scale, perform, and deliver exceptional user experiences.

Your Responsibilities
  • Lead development of complex Android features and system components, balancing business needs with technical quality.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Android development, providing guidance on best practices, code quality, performance, and scalability.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers (SE1/SE2) through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
  • Proactively identify technical risks, architectural improvements, and opportunities for innovation in the mobile ecosystem.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners (Product, UX/UI, Analytics, Backend) to deliver high-impact business features.
  • Drive initiatives around CI/CD, automation, observability, and system reliability.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, architecture discussions, and decisionโ€‘making processes.
  • Participate in production support and root cause analysis for critical issues, driving longโ€‘term improvements.
Your Experience, Skills & Competencies
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing Android applications in Java and Kotlin.
  • Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform with JetPack Compose or Swift is a strong plus.
  • 5+ years of experience with source control (Git preferred), branching strategies, and code collaboration workflows.
  • Proven track record of shipping apps to the Google Play Store and maintaining them in production.
  • Experience developing and maintaining highly transactional, missionโ€‘critical, consumerโ€‘facing mobile apps.
  • Proficient in writing and maintaining unit tests (JUnit, Mockito), UI tests (Espresso), and automated integration tests.
  • Experience with build tools and CI/CD pipelines (Gradle, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Harness, or similar).
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and realโ€‘time communication (WebSockets, Firebase).
  • Strong knowledge of mobile security best practices (encryption, secure storage, authentication).
  • Competencies demonstrated: Technical Leadership, Problem Solving & Decision Quality, Collaboration & Communication.
