Lead Android Developer
About the role
As an Android Lead, you will make an impact by designing and delivering secure, scalable, and high-performance Android applications using modern frameworks such as Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. You will be a valued member of the mobile engineering team, working collaboratively with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to build reliable, accessible, and maintainable solutions for global users.
In this role, you will:
  • Design and architect robust Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and RxJava
  • Define clean architecture patterns and modular designs that ensure scalability, maintainability, and separation of concerns
  • Drive adoption of asynchronous and reactive programming patterns to improve responsiveness and simplify concurrency handling
  • Optimize application performance by analyzing memory usage, startup time, network calls, and rendering pipelines
  • Implement and review secure coding practices, including encryption, secure storage, authentication flows, and protection against mobile threats
  • Establish comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, instrumentation, and UI testing integrated into CI pipelines
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable Android solutions
  • Guide teams on effective use of Android Jetpack components for navigation, lifecycle, dependency injection, and data management

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Stamford, CT, Chicago, IL or Dallas, TX. What you need to have to be considered
  • 8 years of professional experience in Android development with at least 2 years in an architecture or technical leadership role
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and RxJava for building modern Android applications
  • Proven experience implementing clean architecture and modular design patterns for scalable mobile solutions
  • Solid experience in Android testing and debugging, including unit tests, UI automation, and crash analysis
  • Deep understanding of Android security, including secure storage, encryption, and secure communication practices
  • Experience optimizing application performance using profiling tools and performance tuning techniques
These will help you stand out
  • Experience with Play Store deployment, build variants, feature flagging, and phased rollout strategies
  • Knowledge of Android accessibility standards and inclusive design best practices
  • Experience documenting architecture, coding standards, and reusable design patterns
  • Strong collaboration skills in cross-functional, hybrid environments
  • Experience mentoring developers and conducting code reviews to improve quality and consistency

Compensation
The annual salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $141,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, subject to performance and applicable plan terms.
