Job description
EMORY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE/GRADY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORY MEDICINE
DIRECTOR OF ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY
Emory University School of Medicine's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks an accomplished pathologist to serve as Director of Anatomic Pathology at our Grady Memorial Hospital site. Grady is a renowned public academic health system providing critical services to Atlanta and the surrounding communities. It is a major training site for the department's education programs, including one of the largest pathology residency programs in the country and fourteen ACGME pathology subspecialty fellowships.
Grady's Anatomic Pathology Division offers its faculty a rich and diverse diagnostic practice, including approximately 15,000 surgical pathology specimens, 3,200 non-GYN cytology specimens, 9,500 GYN cytology specimens, and 70 autopsies each year, with planned adoption of digital pathology for primary diagnosis.
The Director will participate in a partially subspecialized practice to fulfill the role's clinical responsibilities. Through both administrative and clinical tasks, the Director will serve as a strategic and collaborative leader, ensuring Grady continues to promote quality patient care and excellency in education.
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide strategic and academic leadership for the Anatomic Pathology Division, promoting academic advancement and high-quality diagnostic services for faculty.
-
Ensure high clinical standards through adherence to CLIA and CAP requirements via oversight of quality, compliance, and laboratory partnerships.
-
Guide new Anatomic Pathology initiatives and technology that align with institutional goals.
-
Support the education of pathology residents and fellows during Grady rotations.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD; be board-certified in Anatomic Pathology; and be eligible for medical licensure in Georgia. Candidates with 3-5 years of experience in general surgical pathology and/or subspecialty practice, along with demonstrated interest in leadership roles, are encouraged to apply. Faculty rank (Assistant, Associate, or Professor) and compensation will be commensurate with qualifications.
