What is an analytics manager?

An analytics manager translates raw data into insights that a business can use. Usually leading a team of analysts, your job duties include developing data analysis strategies, tracking and reporting on performance, implementing tools and solutions, and overseeing all analytics operations. You must stay up-to-date on current industry trends. Strong communication and analytical skills are required. Other qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in statistics, data management, or information technology and proven career experience in market research, statistical modelings, or project management.

How does an analytics manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business insights?

Analytics Managers frequently work alongside teams such as marketing, product development, finance, and operations to translate data into actionable business strategies. They facilitate meetings to understand stakeholder goals, guide data collection efforts, and present findings in a way that's accessible to non-technical audiences. This cross-functional collaboration ensures that insights are aligned with business objectives and that projects are implemented effectively. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an analytics manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Analytics Manager, you need strong analytical skills, data interpretation expertise, leadership experience, and typically a degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with analytics platforms (such as Tableau, Power BI), programming languages (like SQL, Python, or R), and data management systems is essential, along with relevant certifications such as Google Analytics or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP). Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies. These competencies ensure data-driven decision-making, effective team leadership, and impactful business outcomes.

Job description

The Expert Network's ability to make smart, fast decisions - about how experts are performing, where quality is slipping, and where the customer experience needs to improve - depends on having the right data, structured the right way, reaching the right people at the right time. The Expert Network Center of Excellence (COE) is responsible for owning that measurement layer: defining what gets tracked, how it gets interpreted, and how it flows to the leaders and teams who need it to act.

As our Insights & Analytics lead, you'll own the direction and delivery of reporting and measurement frameworks across the Expert Network. You'll consolidate and standardize how performance data is structured and surfaced across a diverse, tiered workforce - bringing consistency to a landscape where teams currently operate with varying levels of measurement maturity. You'll partner with data and analytics teams who build and maintain the underlying tools, while you own the strategic decisions about what the business needs to see and why.

This role is well suited for someone who is as comfortable shaping measurement strategy as they are translating complex data into clear narratives - someone who understands that a dashboard no one acts on hasn't done its job.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting & Dashboards - Direction & Delivery - Own the direction and delivery of COE and Service Delivery reporting. Define what gets measured, how it's interpreted, and how it reaches Service Delivery leaders in a form they can act on. Partner with Data Science and Analytics on tooling; you own the business requirements and the output. Move fast - reporting foundations should be in place by early Q1.

  • Consolidate & Standardize Across the Expert Network - Drive consolidation and parity across reporting that currently exists in inconsistent form across Service Delivery teams. Identify gaps in data availability and partner with Data Science and Analytics and technology teams to close them. This is a consolidation effort - not a net new build.

  • Specialty Team Metrics - Consolidation & Standardization - Drive consolidation and standardization of metrics across 9+ specialty expert teams currently operating with inconsistent measurement. This is a Year 1 scope focused on building parity and a single standard - not net new infrastructure from scratch.

  • Manager & Expert Insights Partnership - Collaborate with Expert Experience on the 20% COE holds: the strategy layer, framework design, and ensuring what flows to managers and experts reflects COE's standards and priorities. Maintain clear lanes and strong partnership.

  • Performance Measurement Partnership - Partner with the Performance & Incentive Operations function on reporting requirements that feed into KPI frameworks, ratings, and incentive structures. Ensure COE's measurement work provides the upstream data integrity that performance governance depends on.

  • Insights Communication & Storytelling - Translate complex data into narratives that reach all Service Delivery leaders and COE leadership clearly and compellingly. Surface the right signals at the right time. Make insights drive action, not just awareness.

Qualifications

Experience & Industry Expertise

  • 5-7 years of experience in analytics, insights, business intelligence, reporting, or strategy and operations; experience supporting customer success, service delivery, or large workforce organizations preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience building or improving reporting infrastructure, dashboard frameworks, or measurement standards at scale - with ownership of business requirements and output quality.

  • Familiarity with data visualization platforms, workforce analytics tools, or expert/advisor performance measurement a plus.

Educational Background

  • We value knowledge and skills built through experience. Whether your background comes from formal education, industry certifications, professional development, or years of doing the work, what matters is the expertise you bring. Relevant domains include business intelligence, data analytics, reporting infrastructure, workforce analytics, or measurement and performance frameworks.

Customer-Centered Mindset

  • Understands that the right data, delivered clearly, enables Service Delivery leaders to make decisions that improve expert and customer outcomes. Obsessed with making insights useful - not just accurate.

Customer Insight & Understanding / Analytical Thinking

  • Defines what gets measured and why across COE and Service Delivery. Synthesizes data from multiple reporting streams to surface trends, gaps, and opportunities that drive strategic and operational decisions.

  • Proficient in end-to-end quantitative thinking and problem-solving. Translates complex data into clear narratives. Comfortable working with multiple data sources in a dynamic, seasonal environment.

Connect Strategy with Execution

  • Connects COE's measurement priorities to Service Delivery operational outcomes. Ensures reporting infrastructure serves strategic direction - leaders are getting the signals they need, not just the data that's easiest to pull.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Strong cross-functional partnership with Data Science and Analytics, technology teams, Expert Experience, and the Performance & Incentive Operations function. Translates data complexity into language that drives decisions at all Service Delivery leadership levels. Builds trust with technical partners by being a precise, reliable business requirements owner.

Execution Orientation

  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced, seasonal environment, delivering measurable business impact. Proactive in anticipating dependencies, risks, and resource gaps, working swiftly to resolve them
