Job description

Manager, Finance Data Analytics & Insights

The opportunity


As the Manager, Finance Data Analytics & Insights, you will work with Finance teams on key data & analytical tools initiatives/projects. In conjunction with the Director of Finance Data, Analytics & Insights, you will partner together on DA&I initiatives and coordinate between Finance teams and other departments within OTPP to enable timely, efficient, and effective development and implementation of Finance data initiatives / BI Solutions.

Who you'll work with


You will provide support to business users and decision makers within Finance to develop and maintain BI Solutions that unlock actionable intelligence and insights that guide management decisions. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with partners in EOD Data & Analytics who support the BI Solutions infrastructure and development process.

What you'll do


You will be responsible for participating in various projects and initiatives within the Finance Data Analytics & Insights team, including the following:

  • Development and maintenance of a Finance dashboards that includes key financial metrics currently reported/tracked by various Finance teams (e.g. Risk, Performance, Valuation, Expenses, etc.) as directed by Director or Senior Managers

  • Continuous refresh and update of the Finance DA&I prioritized list of opportunities

  • Assist Finance teams in the development and delivery of new analytical capabilities that help drive investment or business decision making for partners through DA&I prioritized projects

  • Aid in development of analytical tools and solutions, and self-service reporting (such as Power BI)

  • Assist Finance teams with automation of key reporting such as QBR (Quarterly Business Review management reporting), Audit & Actuarial Committee material

  • Support the "OneFinance" model, to help eliminate duplication of analytical efforts and ensuring one source of the truth is available to all business partners and stakeholders

  • Proactively provide input on the group's mandate, team composition and skills, and recommend changes for process improvements for the team, and stakeholders

  • Provide input and insights in relation to developing critical initiatives for the Finance Data Analytics and Insights group

  • Working with the Director or Senior Managers, this role will help to find opportunities / requirements and develop solutions / courses of action where there may be no precedent

  • Support and oversight to ensure key Finance datasets are incorporated in the enterprise data dictionary (Collibra) including ongoing maintenance of new datasets

What you'll need

  • Approximately 6+ years of related professional experience in investment analysis and/or financial reporting

  • Working knowledge of the pension plan's business cycles (including trade life cycle, Finance operations, data management and reporting, FP&A investment performance, risk, valuations, ESG and financial & management reporting

  • CFA, MBA, CPA, CBV, FRM, or CIPM designation or equivalent international accreditation/designation

  • Financial services industry experience is a must; pension or investment fund experience preferred

  • Experience in project management / special projects, including participating in cross-functional teams, an asset Experience with management reporting and analysis, an asset

  • Strong technical knowledge of Business Intelligence solutions & visualization tools (e.g. Power BI) and understanding of tools that enable efficient financial data capture and analysis (SQL, R, Python, Snowflake)

  • Extensive use of MS Office products

  • The creative ability to find opportunities / requirements and develop solutions / courses of action where there may be no precedent.

  • Excellent analytical ability, judgment, independent and creative thinking is essential to identify, research and interpret pertinent information
