About the Role:
Housing Advocacy Vocational and Employment is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional with Amharic language skills to join our team in Silver Spring, MD. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities by providing personalized care and support. Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care and daily living support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Communicate effectively with Amharic-speaking clients and their families to ensure culturally competent care
  • Assist clients with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks
  • Support individuals in community integration, vocational activities, and social engagement
  • Document and maintain accurate client progress notes and incident reports
  • Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) in collaboration with care teams
  • Transport and accompany clients to appointments, programs, and community outings
Requirements:
  • Fluency in Amharic (spoken and/or written) is required
  • Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), caregiver, or in a related human services role preferred
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a patient, empathetic, and person-centered approach
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
