Raw Materials Operator - Steel Mill Operations

Location: Bartonville/Peoria, IL

Department: Raw Materials

Hourly Wage: Starting at $19.65/hour + up to $4-$7/hour incentive pay after training

Schedule: Full-time | Rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime required

Are you ready to take the wheel-literally-and drive the success of American steel production? As a Raw Materials Operator at Liberty Steel & Wire, you'll be at the forefront of the steelmaking journey. From scrap metal delivery to finished product movement, you'll operate heavy machinery that powers everything we do.

Join the Independent Steel Workers' Alliance (ISWA) and become a key player in one of the most critical departments in our operation.

What You'll Do:

Operate large track excavators customized for scrap handling

Drive 40-ton articulated dump trucks across the plant site

Run 275-ton overhead hot-metal cranes with EAF teams

Operate a locomotive to maneuver railcars of scrap and finished goods

Unload, sort, and store incoming scrap metal efficiently

Assist with barge loading of outbound finished products

Perform daily equipment checks and basic preventative maintenance

Collaborate with Melting, Shipping, and Maintenance departments

Adhere to strict safety and environmental standards

What We're Looking For:

Required:

High school diploma or GED

1+ year of industrial or heavy equipment experience

Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime

Ability to thrive in outdoor, physically demanding environments

Focused, safety-first mindset with strong teamwork skills

Preferred:

Experience operating cranes, mobile equipment, or locomotives

Background in steel or manufacturing industries

Mechanically inclined and adaptable in fast-paced settings
