    Job description

    SUMMARY

    The Gym Attendant will ensure that those using the Strongheart Recreational Center follow the safety rules and regulations. The Gym Attendant will also maintain proper cleanliness of the Strongheart Center during their assigned shift in programming events that may occur during the evening.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • High School diploma or GED required.
    • Some experience working with exercise, gym and cardiovascular equipment preferred.
    • Must have and maintain current CPR/First Aid certification.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist in facility set-up and teardown for the Strongheart Center functions.
    • Monitor gymnasium when members are working out to ensure that the Strongheart Recreational Center rules and regulations are being followed.
    • Address and greet members and future members friendly and warmly.
    • Comply by all Strongheart Center rules and regulations.
    • Assist all members in questions and concerns they have on membership, workout, rules, etc.
    • Responsible for the opening and closing of the Strongheart Center, following proper procedures.
    • Monitor and maintain cleanliness of the Strongheart Center, to include keeping the kitchen in a cleanliness state at all times.
    • Sweep/Mop weight room, running track, stairwells, lobby and kitchen area as assigned.
    • Perform gym floor maintenance daily and clean bleachers on a daily basis.
    • Other miscellaneous duties such as pickup of building trash, inside/outside, and shoveling front door.
    • Keeping locker rooms re-stocked and tidy.
    • Maintain all Strongheart Center gym equipment, i.e., exercise equipment, fitness machines, free-weights, loose gym equipment, balls, etc.
    • Monitor usage of all Strongheart Center gym equipment, ensuring their safe usage and the safety of the individual using it.
    • Maintain and monitor quality/choice of music played in Strongheart Center.
    • Maintain and monitor daily all member sign-in sheets with legible handwriting.
    • Must be able to calculate and collect appropriate membership fees and class fees.
    • Orient clients to weight equipment.
    • Provide motivation and encouragement to clients with frequent contact and on-going support.
    • Be in compliance with all GTB policies and procedures.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Good time management and organizational skills are critical.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect.
    • Common sense and great people skills are absolutely critical to success in this position.
    • Must be able to make sound judgements, with safety of the client in mind, and the safe use of all exercise and gym equipment at all times.
    • Ability to read and write legibly.
    • Work requires basic proficiency in computer literacy, preferably in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft office products and database applications.
    • Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
    • Must be professional with clients.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High School Diploma or GED required. Some experience working with exercise, gym and cardiovascular equipment preferred

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be familiar with gym and cardiovascular equipment.
    • Must have current CPR certification.
    • Must be able to work independently and without supervision.
    • Must be able to work weekends and evenings.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Some supervision of the Youth Workers staff on a daily basis to ensure that each student has a successful learning job experience at the Strongheart Center.
    • Must assist in supervising the Center to ensure a safe and effective recreational building.

    EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

    General office equipment such as, calculators, computers, modem, copiers, fax, phone systems, etc. Be familiar with various exercise equipment, fitness machines and free-weights, and well as other gym equipment. Must be able to use cleaning equipment such as buffing/stripping machine, and other cleaning equipment to perform these tasks.

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Work requires sitting, lifting, reaching, walking, and lifting heavy objects, such as various exercise equipment. Climbing stairs to conduct security checks or monitor facility. Also requires manual dexterity to operate office equipment, keyboarding, copiers, etc.

    TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

    The employee uses judgement in identifying and selecting the most appropriate procedures to use, or in determining which of several established alternatives to use. Some deadlines are involved, so there is time pressure on occasion.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    A good deal of work is performed in an office environment, but it is important to realize that some of the work is on the floor and in the various areas of the Center and that you are expected to go on-site on a regular basis.

    COMMENTS

    Native American preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy in regard to confidentiality is a must.
