Position Description:

Designs and develops next generation data platforms using traditional and new cloud technologies, open source frameworks, and cloud services. Defines domain and data capabilities by analyzing business requirements and developing solutions. Performs data modeling, and architects and designs data platforms including databases, data marts, data warehouses, and cloud data warehouses. Uses PowerDesigner for data modeling and performs dimensional modeling, Snowflake modeling, and data vault modeling. Responsible for data analysis, modeling, data security, data warehousing, metadata management and data quality. Evaluates databases and data models for inconsistencies and variances. Builds data solutions using external cloud (Amazon Web Services (AWS)) data applications and capabilities. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams.

  • Defines and implements application-level architecture.

  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.

  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.

  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.

  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.

  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.

  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.

  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.

  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.

  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.

  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.

  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.

  • Mentors junior team members.

  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.

  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, reviewing, and implementing data and cloud management solutions using analytics platforms for multi-Cloud data transformation projects in a financial services environment.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, reviewing, and implementing data and cloud management solutions using analytics platforms for multi-Cloud data transformation projects in a financial services environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") designing and reviewing logical and physical data models using data modeling tools (Erwin, PowerDesigner) for Data Warehouse (DW), Data Lake, OLTP, and ODS systems; and generating and publishing data model reports using Erwin or Power Designer Data Modeling tool for technical and business teams.

  • DE evaluating and implementing new features and best practices of databases -- Snowflake, Oracle Exadata, and PostgreSQL; designing data flow (ETL) and data architecture diagrams for leadership and technical and business teams; and preparing and publishing standards, best practices documentations, and checklists on data engineering processes, using Confluence and SharePoint.

  • DE optimizing and reviewing SQL, Stored Procedure, and performance of databases (Snowflake, Oracle Exadata, and PostgreSQL); optimizing performance and scalability -- clustering, indexing, partitioning, Materialized Views and Compression using Snowflake, Oracle Exadata, and PostgreSQL DB capabilities to optimize resource intensive application service calls; and designing and implementing Database Resource Manager, ETL, and Data Ingestion to manage database resource utilization and data flow.

  • DE designing and implementing AWS Cloud data services using Amazon RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, S3, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, and AWS Cloud Watch to store data and monitor for transactional and analytics workloads; designing and implementing data security services -- role and schema based access control, data masking, data redaction, and data encryption to manage access to sensitive data; designing AI/Machine Learning (ML) services using Snowflake Cortex Analyst, Snowflake Intelligence, GitHub Copilot, or Microsoft Copilot for Natural Language Processing (NLP).
