Automation Solutions Engineer, Central RME, Global Jam Program

Amazon

As a Automation Solutions Engineer on the GJP team, you will execute programs focused on jam reduction, SCADA systems, OEE analysis, technology integration, and developing permanent corrective actions to complex issues affecting multiple sites. You'll collaborate with field RME teams, conduct site health analyses, implement the enhanced GJP process at underperforming facilities, and support pilot projects through change management documentation and capital request proposals. This is a regional role based in North America with travel expected across the globe.

Controls & Automation
  • Lead and serve as subject matter expert for controls engineering within the team, specializing in specific technologies or end-to-end automation systems
  • Develop and deploy code on multiple platforms: PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), Python, Java, C++, C#, or similar modern languages to support controls solutions.
  • Design and implement automation tools that streamline processes and improve fleet operations efficiency
Data Analysis
  • Analyze and order high volume of data through statistical analysis tools
  • Create datasets and dashboards to facilitate data representation, using AWS tools: Quicksight, Lambda, Redshift, SQL scripting.
  • Identify patterns affecting performance, reliability, or availability and remove them through automation or technical innovations
  • Drive continuous improvement using data-driven methodologies (Six Sigma principles preferred) to reduce jam DPMO and improve equipment reliability
Jam Reduction & Process Improvement
  • Lead and execute complex jam reduction initiatives across multiple regions- globally with strong self-direction and ownership.
  • Manage cross-functional projects from initiation through completion, coordinating with field RME teams, operations, and central engineering groups
  • Develop and implement permanent corrective actions (PCAs) and best practices scalable across the network
  • Advise and steer vendor projects related to controls and automation systems
  • Lead or serve as signatory in change management processes
  • Independently prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate complex technical issues and project status effectively to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, being able to communicate at different levels from associates to directors.
  • Conduct comprehensive site health analyses and audits, identifying root causes and leading teams to sustainable solutions
Technical Excellence & Mentorship
  • Identify skill and knowledge gaps within RME Teams and deliver technical training
  • Demonstrate cross-domain understanding for diagnosing technology issues across systems from multiple engineering fields: mechanical, electrical, electronics/hardware.
  • Maintain working knowledge of warehouse control systems, SCADA, and telegram communications
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain sound knowledge of machinery safety regulations and safe working practices
  • Ensure all controls solutions meet safety and regulatory requirements
Travel
  • Travel regularly to support sites, lead on-site assessments, and ensure successful implementation of jam reduction strategies
