Job description

Amazon Logistics deploys automation at a pace and scale unmatched in the industry, from robotic sortation to intelligent conveyor systems across a rapidly expanding global delivery network. The WW Innovation & Engineering team owns the controls architecture that underpins this transformation: designing modern control system frameworks, integrating OT and IT into a unified platform, and driving standardization across diverse technologies and geographies. This is controls engineering at its most complex and impactful.
Amazon is seeking a Senior Systems Development Engineer to join the Amazon Logistics WW Innovation & Engineering team

This individual will architect and develop complex controls solutions for next-generation delivery station automation, with a focus on modern IEC 61131-3 compliant control system development using CODESYS and Allen Bradley platforms.
You will design scalable controls architectures that integrate Operational Technology (OT) with IT systems, develop reusable software frameworks for material handling equipment, and drive the convergence of edge computing, industrial networking, and cloud connectivity. This role spans the full systems development lifecycle, from architecture and design through development, testing, commissioning, and operational support across a portfolio of automation technologies deployed at global scale.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the controls platform strategy for Amazon's last-mile automation, influencing how complex mechatronic systems are designed, standardized, and scaled across the network.
Key job responsibilities
Core Technical Responsibilities:
Design and develop complex, multi-system controls architectures using CODESYS and Allen Bradley (Studio 5000) platforms.
Develop modular, reusable PLC/IPC software following IEC 61131-3 standards with emphasis on Structured Text and object-oriented industrial programming
Architect modern control system frameworks that enable scalability, maintainability, and rapid deployment across sites
Design and implement OT/IT convergence solutions - integrating edge controllers, industrial networks, and cloud-based monitoring/analytics platforms
Design HMI/SCADA applications as well as sensor & vision system integrations
Establish and maintain controls design standards/specifications, software libraries, and development guidelines
Design and implement industrial fieldbus architectures including EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET
Project Leadership:
Manage multiple high-visibility global projects simultaneously
Lead technical design reviews for control systems and simulations
Coordinate with global design teams and vendors for end-to-end Project Delivery
Conceptualize, Review and integrate new MHE technologies
A day in the life
Your work is very hands-on and multi-disciplinary. You will be working closely with vendors, cross-functional engineers, and project teams

You lead design reviews, write and troubleshoot new functions and concepts within Automation based code such as CODESYS. Develop concepts and present them to both internal and external stakeholders, prepare and review technical documents, demonstrate proof-of-concepts, build prototypes, and manage stakeholder expectations.
About the team
This team shapes the automation strategy for last-mile delivery operations, influencing how complex mechatronic systems are designed, standardized, and scaled across a global logistics network.
The team brings together simulation, controls, mechanical, and electrical engineering disciplines to develop state-of-the-art automated systems. Projects extend operational technology with cloud services and IT systems to develop reusable software and hardware frameworks for material handling equipment, driving the convergence of edge computing, industrial networking, and cloud connectivity.
