Operations Director

Location: Indianapolis, IN
Department: Operations
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Operations Director is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Babila Logistics, ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and exceptional service delivery. This role oversees all aspects of the Amazon DSP business, including dispatch, fleet management, payroll, recruiting, safety, compliance, performance management, and strategic initiatives to drive growth and profitability.

The Operations Director serves as a member of the executive leadership team and is expected to develop scalable processes, coach leaders, and build a high-performing culture aligned with the Company's values.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Direct and oversee all daily delivery operations to ensure routes are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Amazon standards.
  • Lead Dispatch, Fleet Management, Driver Support, Recruiting, and Administrative functions.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that improve productivity, quality, and profitability.
  • Establish and monitor key operational metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure all routes are fully staffed and dispatched successfully with minimal operational disruptions.

Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and evaluate Dispatchers, Fleet Managers, Trainers, and Delivery Associates.
  • Conduct weekly leadership meetings and performance reviews.
  • Develop corrective action plans and oversee disciplinary actions, including coaching, warnings, suspensions, and terminations.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

Payroll & Compensation Administration

  • Oversee weekly payroll processing and ensure all employee timecards are accurate prior to payroll submission.
  • Audit payroll records, overtime, missed punches, and ADP time entries to ensure compliance with company policy and labor laws.
  • Partner with dispatch and leadership teams to resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.

Incentive Program Management

  • Design, administer, and monitor driver and leadership incentive programs.
  • Track eligibility and calculate weekly and monthly performance bonuses based on safety, attendance, productivity, quality, and customer experience metrics.
  • Recommend enhancements to incentive structures to improve employee engagement and operational performance.
  • Ensure incentive payments are processed accurately through payroll.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage operational budgets.
  • Monitor labor costs, overtime, fleet expenses, and operating margins.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality.
  • Analyze financial performance and present recommendations to executive leadership.

Fleet Management

  • Oversee vehicle acquisition, maintenance, repairs, inspections, registrations, and compliance.
  • Ensure maximum fleet availability and minimize downtime.
  • Manage vendor relationships and repair costs.
  • Monitor vehicle damage trends and implement preventive measures.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Amazon DSP standards, DOT regulations, OSHA requirements, and company policies.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, safety incidents, and customer complaints.
  • Monitor Netradyne, Mentor, and other safety platforms to identify trends and corrective actions.
  • Maintain zero tolerance for unsafe behaviors and ensure timely coaching.

Recruiting & Workforce Planning

  • Oversee recruiting, onboarding, and workforce planning activities.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels to support operational demand.
  • Develop succession plans for key operational positions.
  • Coordinate training schedules and employee development initiatives.

Performance Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain dashboards tracking operational KPIs.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on safety, quality, attendance, labor costs, overtime, fleet utilization, and financial performance.
  • Use data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making and improve operational outcomes.

Process Improvement & Strategic Initiatives

  • Design and implement scalable business processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify automation opportunities and leverage technology to optimize operations.
  • Support business growth initiatives and expansion plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in operations, logistics, transportation, or supply chain management.
  • Experience managing payroll, budgeting, workforce planning, and performance management.
  • Strong understanding of Amazon DSP operations is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, ADP, and reporting tools.
