Job description

Design and build the electrical systems that power next-generation automation robots, working hands-on in our engineering lab to transform prototypes into production-ready solutions. You'll partner directly with mechanical engineers, software engineers, and technicians to create industrial control panels, integrate sensors and components, and solve complex technical challenges that impact Amazon's operational efficiency across hundreds of fulfillment centers.
Key job responsibilities
As an Senior Electrical Engineer you will:
- Design industrial control panels using EPLAN, selecting and specifying components including PLCs, IPCs, motor drives, sensors, and safety devices to meet system requirements
- Research, evaluate, and select sensors, actuators, motors, and other electrical components for integration into automation systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
- Perform system-level electrical design and integration, ensuring electrical subsystems work cohesively with mechanical and software components across the complete
- Create wiring harness designs and electrical documentation, including connector specifications, wire routing, cable management, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials for prototype and production systems
- Build, assemble, and test prototype wiring harnesses and control panels in the lab, conducting electrical validation using standard equipment and iterating based on test results; aide field deployment and troubleshooting as needed
A day in the life
As an Senior Electrical Engineer on our team, you'll focus on designing industrial control panels and developing electrical systems for robots that operate at scale across our fulfillment network. Your day might include selecting and specifying components like PLCs, motor drives, and sensors using EPLAN; researching and evaluating new electrical components for integration into automation systems; or building and testing prototype wiring harnesses in our lab. You'll work alongside mechanical and software engineers to ensure electrical subsystems integrate seamlessly with other components, then iterate quickly based on test results. Beyond regular design work, you may conduct electrical testing using oscilloscopes and multimeters, generate technical documentation like schematics and wiring diagrams, or assist field deployment and troubleshooting at fulfillment centers to ensure systems perform reliably in real-world environments.

We are a Hardware Development Engineering team operating in a highly partnership-focused, multi-disciplinary environment. Our group includes software engineers, controls engineers, data scientists, reliability engineers, and operations teams working collectively to design, prototype, and develop robots from early concept through production-ready integrated systems. We focus on ensuring our solutions meet customer experience, safety, regulatory, and business requirements before deployment. Our work spans the entire product development lifecycle-from concept generation and design down-selection through continuous improvement of deployed systems across hundreds of fulfillment centers in North America and Europe.

We design and build custom mechanisms, develop novel automation solutions, and create robust mechanical and electromechanical systems while working directly in lab environments and fulfillment centers. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience collaborating with the ECAD/physical board designer and able to review PCB designs with Allegro, CAM350, or equivalent
- Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability
- Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup and circuit board layout
- Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience designing industrial control panels or electrical systems for automated equipment
- Experience with ECAD tools (e.g., EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical)
- Recent execution of a panel design in EPLAN (last 5 years or less).
- Experience designing wiring harnesses and specifying industrial connectors
- Experience working with PLCs, industrial sensors, and motor drives
- Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and function generators
- Familiarity with the NEC and UL 508A standards for industrial control panels and the NFPA79 standard for industrial machinery
- Experience aiding equipment commissioning and troubleshooting in production or warehouse environments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, IO-Link, Profine,CANOPEN)
- Experience with safety system design (safety PLCs, safety-rated devices, risk assessment per ISO 13849 or IEC 62443)
- Experience building prototype wiring harnesses and control panels
- Experience with IPCs and embedded computing platforms in industrial environments
- Knowledge of servo systems, VFDs, and motion control applications
- Experience with signal conditioning and signal interfaces
- Working knowledge of EMI/EMC and radiated/conducted noise mitigation
- Experience scaling a design to volume manufacturing
