The RoleAspenTech is seeking an exceptional candidate to join our Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) Team. In this role, you will blend power systems engineering expertise with software development to design and build new features that support the next generation of grid modernization. You will help deliver innovative, usercentric, and highquality capabilities that enable utilities and operators to effectively manage an evolving landscape of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including solar, wind, storage, and other advanced grid assets.
You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of software engineers and power systems/electrical engineering professionals to create solutions that strengthen grid reliability, support decarbonization, and enable dynamic DER deployment at scale.
Aspen Tech's R&D organization plays a pivotal role in clean energy transition. In this position, you will build compelling features that allow customers to visualize, control, optimize, and analyze Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). We will provide specific onthejob training where needed.
To be successful, you should bring a strong foundation in power systems engineering and electrical grid concepts, combined with proficiency in software development. We are looking for a selfdriven problem solver eager to learn, collaborate, and contribute to complex, highimpact development projects.Your Impact
  • Develop and maintain missioncritical grid and DERrelated applications using C++.
  • Collaborate with software developers, architects, and power systems experts to design and implement bestinclass DERMS capabilities.
  • Design and implement reliable, performant, and faulttolerant code grounded in realworld power systems requirements and user stories.
  • Ensure software quality and reliability through unit testing.
  • Participate in code reviews and design reviews.
  • Engage in agile ceremonies (daily standups, story refinement, sprint planning, retrospectives).
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve software issues in both algorithmic logic and powersystemrelated functionality.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both power systems specialists and nontechnical audiences.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Software Engineering or related technical field.
  • Formal power systems and power electronics education with proven professional experience and technical expertise in the field of power system engineering
  • Knowledge of modern grid technologies - Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), Distribution Systems (DMS), Grid Energy Storage (BES), Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO), Virtual Power Plant (VPP) preferred.
  • Familiarity with mixed integer programming and convex optimization.
  • Familiarity with industrial solvers like Gurobi, CLP, and/or CBC.
  • Strong knowledge of optimization techniques, including mixedinteger programming.
  • Experience in identifying, communicating, and resolving problems in a collaborative, professional manner.
  • A strong desire to help facilitate the decarbonization and renewable expansion across the globe.
  • Electrical engineering background in utility industry preferred.

Work Location:
Aspen Technology has a global hybrid workplace for most of our roles. Employees are expected to work in the office 4 days per week and may work remotely 1 day per week, unless the employee has a reasonable accommodation or other approved exception to the hybrid workplace schedule. This role is based at the AspenTech Digital Grid Management Headquarters in Medina, MN.

The salary range for this role is $90,200.00 - $112,800.00. This range represents what we in good faith believe is the range possible for base compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on several factors. This range may be modified in the future. This role is also eligible for bonus or variable incentive pay. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, charitable giveback day, medical/dental/vision insurance, and retirement benefits to eligible employees.
