Descriptionย
We build mission-critical software for high-altitude balloon systems, where reliability and real-world performance matter. Our systems operate in demanding environments and interface directly with flight hardware. Aerostar, a business unit of TCOM, is seeking anย Embedded Softwareย Applicationย Engineerย to design and develop software that runs on our airborne and ground-based systems.ย
This role focuses on building robust, maintainable embedded softwareย applicationsย that integrates closely with hardware and supports real-time telemetry, control systems, and mission operations. You will contribute to the development of software across the stackโfrom low-level hardware interfaces to higher-level application logicโensuring systems perform reliably in the field.ย
You will work closely with electrical, systems, and software engineers to deliver high-quality embedded solutions and improve the overall reliability and maintainability of our systems.ย
What Youโll Do:ย ย
- Design and implement embedded softwareย applicationsย for near-real-time systemsย ย
- Develop and maintain drivers, interfaces, and control logic for sensors and onboard systemsย ย
- Contribute to system architecture and technical design for embedded featuresย ย
- Write efficient, reliable, and maintainable code in moderately resource-constrained environmentsย ย
- Debug and troubleshoot issues across hardware and software boundariesย ย
- Participate in integration, testing, and validation of embedded systemsย ย
- Identify and address performance, reliability, and maintainability challengesย ย
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peersย ย
What Weโre Looking For:ย ย
You are an embeddedย softwareย engineer who can independently deliver complex functionality in real-world systems.ย ย
You have contributed to the design and implementation of embedded software and understand the tradeoffs between performance, reliability, and hardware constraints.ย ย
You are comfortable working close to the hardware.ย ย
You enjoy solving challenging problems that span software and hardware and collaborating across disciplines.ย ย
You are pragmatic, detail-oriented, and focused on building systems that work reliably in production environments.ย ย
You can write software without the assistance of AI but are open to using it to enhance your toolset.ย ย
Education & Experience:ย ย
- Bachelorโs degree in software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experienceย
- Typically,ย 1+ย years of experience in embedded software developmentย ย
Preferred Experience:ย ย
- Rust, C/C++ for embedded systemsย ย
- Linux OSย
- Hardware interfaces (E.g., SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet)ย ย
- Working with sensors, radios, or communication systemsย ย
- Experience with high-reliability or mission-critical systemsย ย
How We Work:ย ย
We are not a startup, but we operate with ownership and technical rigor.ย ย
We are building serious aerospace systems, and we expect strong engineering discipline.ย ย
Strong preference for onsite collaboration. Hybrid may be considered. Remote candidates will not be prioritized.ย
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:ย ย
- Physical Requirements:ย Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach. Reasonableย accommodationย may be provided for individuals with disabilities.ย ย
- Working Conditions:ย Primarily in a standard office environment, with occasional exposure to labs and production areas, including noise, fumes, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.ย ย
Benefits:ย ย
TCOM offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts/HSAs, EAP, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, paid time off (PTO), and company-paid holidays.
