Job description

Range is creating AI-powered solutions to eliminate financial complexity for our members. Weโ€™re transforming wealth management through the perfect blend of cutting-edge technology and human expertise. Weโ€™re obsessed with member experience! Weโ€™ve built an integrated platform that tackles the full spectrum of financial needsโ€“investments, taxes, retirement planning, and estate managementโ€“all unified in one intuitive system.

Backed by Google's Gradient Ventures, Cathay Innovations, and Scale Venture Partners, we're in hyper-growth mode and looking for exceptional talent to join our starting lineup. Every Ranger at this stage is shaping our culture and way of lifeโ€”from former CEOs and startup founders to experts from leading hedge funds and tech companies.

If you're ready to build something that truly matters in financial services, bring your talent to Range. Here, you'll make a genuine impact on how people manage their financial lives while working alongside a team that celebrates wins, makes big decisions, and blazes new trails together.

About the role

As Head of Alternative Investments, you will own and build the alternative investments strategy and platform at Range. This is a leadership role responsible for designing the investment philosophy, sourcing and underwriting opportunities, and building the infrastructure needed to deploy billions of dollars of AUM into alternative asset classes on behalf of our members.

You will set alternatives strategy, manage and grow a high-performing team, and oversee a critical and highly visible function at Range. This role sits at the intersection of investment strategy, technology, and client experience โ€” partnering closely with Planning, Investment Operations, Product, and Compliance to bring institutional-quality alternatives access to our members.

We're excited to hire this role at Range's Headquarters in McLean, VA or our New York City hub. All of our positions follow an in-office schedule Monday through Friday, allowing you to collaborate directly with your team. If you're not currently based in one of these areas but love what you see, letโ€™s discuss relocation as part of your journey to joining us.

What youโ€™ll do with us
  • Develop and lead Rangeโ€™s alternative investments strategy, defining the asset classes, products, and access points (private equity, private credit, real estate, hedge funds, venture, and other alternatives) that will be offered to members.

  • Own sourcing, due diligence, and manager/fund selection, building relationships with top-tier general partners, fund managers, and platforms to secure access and favorable terms.

  • Lead capital deployment at scale, overseeing the allocation and ongoing management of billions of dollars of AUM into alternative strategies in line with member risk profiles and overall portfolio construction.

  • Drive automation and operational efficiency, partnering with Engineering and Product to build scalable workflows for subscriptions, capital calls, distributions, and reporting on alternative investments.

  • Set strategy and KPIs for the alternatives function, using data to measure performance, monitor exposures, and continuously improve outcomes for members.

  • Ensure regulatory and compliance alignment, collaborating with Compliance and Legal to support due diligence standards, disclosures, suitability, and evolving regulatory requirements around alternative investments.

  • Lead and develop a high-impact team, hiring, mentoring, and empowering investment professionals as the alternatives platform scales.

  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Investment Operations, and Client Services to launch new alternative investment offerings with operational readiness from day one.

What will set you apart
  • 10+ years of experience in alternative investments, private markets, or institutional asset allocation, with senior leadership experience in a high-growth or technology-driven environment.

  • Deep familiarity with private equity, private credit, real estate, hedge funds, and other alternative asset classes, including fund structures, manager selection, and due diligence processes.

  • Proven track record of building and scaling alternatives platforms or programs, ideally deploying billions of dollars of AUM.

  • Strong network of relationships with general partners, fund managers, and alternatives platforms.

  • Expertise in regulatory and operational considerations specific to alternative investments, including suitability, disclosures, and audit readiness.

  • Data-driven mindset with experience defining KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics for portfolio and platform performance.

  • FinTech or startup experience preferred

Benefits
  • Health & Wellness: 100% employer-covered medical insurance for employees (75% for dependents), plus dental and vision coverage

  • 401(k): Retirement savings program to support your future

  • Paid Time Off: Dedicated time to reset and recharge plus most federal holidays

  • Parental Leave: Comprehensive leave policy for growing families

  • Meals: Select meals covered throughout the week

  • Fitness: Monthly movement stipend

  • Equity & Career Growth: Early exercise eligibility and a strong focus on professional development

  • Full access to cutting-edge AI tools: We cover the cost so you can experiment, build, and move faster

  • Annual Compensation Reviews: Salary and equity refreshes based on performance

  • Boomerang Program: After two years at Range, you can take time away to start your own company. Weโ€™ll hold your spot for 6 months - and pause your equity vesting, which resumes if you return

Range is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We are committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status. As a company, we are committed to designing products, building a culture, and supporting a team that reflects the diverse population we serve.
