Job description

About Alpha FMC

Who We Are

Alpha Financial Markets Consulting is the leading global consultancy to the financial services industry, partnering with many of the world's largest asset managers, wealth managers, insurers, and alternative investment firms. Since our founding in 2003, Alpha has grown to more than 1,400 consultants globally, serving over 950 clients across North America, Europe, and APAC.ย We help clients solve their most complex business, operational, technology, and transformation challenges. From strategy and operating model design to data, digital, and technology implementation, our teams work alongside clients to drive meaningful change across the investment management and financial services landscape. Our consultants support organizations across traditional asset and wealth management as well as private equity, private credit, real assets, infrastructure, and insurance. Whether helping an asset manager improve its operating model, supporting a private markets firm through a technology transformation, or enabling better use of data and analytics, we combine deep industry expertise with hands-on delivery to create lasting impact for our clients.

At Alpha, you'll work directly with industry leaders, gain exposure to a wide variety of projects and clients, and develop skills that span consulting, technology, operations, strategy, and financial services. While many consultants build expertise within a particular practice area, our collaborative culture encourages learning across teams and disciplines. Most importantly, Alpha is built around its people. We pride ourselves on fostering a supportive, entrepreneurial, and close-knit environment where individuals are empowered to grow their careers, build meaningful relationships, and make an impact from day one. Through comprehensive training, mentorship, social events, and a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community, we strive to create a place where talented people can do their best work and build long-term careers.

About the AWM Consulting Internship Program

The Asset and Wealth Management (AWM) Consulting Internship Program is a fast-paced, ten-week opportunity to jump-start your consulting career. Based in our New York or Toronto office, you'll work directly with clients and gain hands-on consulting experience through direct exposure to senior management teams at some of the world's largest asset managers, all while contributing to key internal initiatives.

New Consulting Interns kick things off with an 'Alpha Internship Training Program' designed to build key consulting skills and a solid network within your cohort. Following the Internship Training Program, you will likely be working on a client engagement with a small to medium sized team (2 to 6 consultants). As advisors to the world's top asset and wealth managers, you'll be working alongside senior executives from the industry and helping them to solve their most challenging business problems and achieve their goals.

As for where you will work, our teams typically split time between working from home, your local Alpha office, and client site. If your client is based in the same city, the amount of office time will vary depending on the client expectations (some clients don't ask us to be in their offices at all, others up to 4 days per week). If your client is based in a different city, travel to the client would typically only be required for key meetings or project milestones.

Alpha believes in supporting its interns through development and coaching - you will receive frequent mentoring from your colleagues, including a senior colleague from Alpha North America who will help you grow and achieve your career goals. You'll also have an Alpha Buddy at the Analyst level to help you settle in and get the most out of your time here. At the end of your internship, strong performers may receive an offer to join us as a full-time Analyst after completing their degree.

What are the role responsibilities?

At Alpha, you will work in teams to identify and implement solutions for a range of issues facing asset and wealth managers. Over the course of the summer, you will collect and analyze data, prepare, and test hypotheses, and present recommendations to the client to solve their unique business challenges.

As a Consulting Intern, you will be responsible for:

  • Following the project delivery plan and producing accurate, complete, and timely deliverables to support your project team
  • Supporting the creation of client deliverables by assisting in the facilitation of client meetings and workshops, maintaining project plans, performing analysis in Excel, and providing effective content creation (e.g., PowerPoint)
  • Developing meaningful and successful relationships with clients and vendors by acting as a helpful and respectful point of contact for stakeholders
  • Contributing to the wider Alpha community by participating in one or more of Alpha's business management or practice areas
  • Maintaining a high-level understanding of the challenges facing the Asset & Wealth Management Industry
