Job Summary:
The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining various types of metal fabrication machinery to produce steel components according to specifications. This role plays a critical part in maintaining production efficiency and ensuring parts meet quality standards for use in structural steel and building systems.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate and monitor robotic welding systems and automated fabrication equipment used in the fabrication of structural steel beams and components
  • Set up machines, tooling, and robotic programs based on production specifications, shop drawings, and work orders
  • Fabricate structural steel beams and assemblies, including layout, fit-up, and positioning of components prior to welding
  • Load, align, and secure beams, plates, and structural components for automated welding and fabrication processes
  • Monitor robotic welding operations to ensure proper weld penetration, alignment, and overall structural integrity
  • Perform basic robotic teach adjustments and program modifications as needed (where applicable)
  • Measure and verify components using calipers, gauges, and other precision tools to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Inspect finished beams and welds for quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with standards
  • Identify and troubleshoot fabrication, fit-up, or equipment issues and escalate as needed
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor troubleshooting on robotic and automated equipment
  • Accurately document production output, scrap, and downtime
  • Coordinate with welding and quality teams to meet daily and weekly production goals
  • Operate steel fabrication machinery, including plasma burn tables, plasma cutters, and other metal- cutting, forming & fabrication equipment.
  • Load raw materials into machines, ensure proper alignment, and monitor the cutting process.
  • Inspect finished parts for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications.
  • Operate and monitor CNC and manual machines such as saws, press brakes, drills, and plasma cutters.
  • Set up machinery according to production specifications and ensure proper tooling and materials are in place.
  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings to produce accurate components.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years operating fabrication equipment, with experience in structural steel fabrication and/or robotic welding strongly preferred
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and measuring tools.
  • Experience with CNC equipment, automated systems, or beam lines a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication details
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand basic English and/or Spanish to interpret and follow safety guidelines and work instructions.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions common to a manufacturing facility (e.g., varying temperatures, noise levels, potential for dust/debris, wet floors).
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating equipment and handling supplies.
  • Ability to safely handle with an overhead crane and work around large steel beams and materials

Work Schedule:
  • Monday-Friday, 1st Shift (6:00am - 2:00pm), 2nd Shift (2:00pm - 10:00pm), 3rd Shift (10:00pm - 6:00am)
  • Depending on production needs, some weekends may be required.
