Justice Prisoner & Alien Transportation System (JPATS)
Location: Kansas City, MO
Agency: United States Marshals Service (USMS)
Travel: Frequent CONUS Travel / Overnight MissionsPosition Summary
The In-Flight Paramedic provides medical care to federal prisoners during air transportation missions conducted by the Justice Prisoner & Alien Transportation System (JPATS). The Paramedic serves as the primary medical authority onboard aircraft, ensuring the safety, medical stability, and continuity of care for inmates during custody transfer and flight operations.
This position requires high adaptability, independent clinical decision-making, and strict adherence to USMS security, safety, and ethical standards.Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary medical provider for prisoners during JPATS flight missions.
  • Review and screen all prisoner medical records for fitness to fly.
  • Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and emergency interventions.
  • Respond to medical emergencies (e.g., seizures, cardiac events, behavioral crises).
  • Maintain custody and control of all medical equipment, medications, and documentation.
  • Document all medical encounters and complete required USM 210 reports within 24 hours.
  • Coordinate with Aviation Enforcement Officer In Charge (AEOIC) on custodial matters.
  • Monitor for communicable disease threats and notify JPATS leadership immediately.
  • Ensure all required medications, equipment, and supplies are verified prior to flight.
  • Participate in overnight and short-notice mission deployments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Minimum age: 21 years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current National Registry Paramedic certification (NREMT-P).
  • Minimum three (3) years verifiable experience as a certified Paramedic.
  • Current certifications:
    • CPR
    • ACLS
    • AED
  • Valid state driver's license with safe driving record.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of extended flight missions.
