Job / Task Description
The Senior Transportation Engineer – Aviation, Transit, Roadway (P.E.) plays a key role in the design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects. This individual contributes expert technical knowledge, provides design leadership, and ensures the quality and accuracy of all project deliverables. The position requires strong collaboration with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to advance SARCOR’s reputation for high-caliber engineering solutions.
This position focuses on technical design excellence, quality, and mentorship rather than staff supervision or executive leadership. You may be required to serve as the Engineer of Record, technical mentor, and QA/QC authority.
Compensation
$110,000 – $135,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

Key Responsibilities
·       Technical Design & Engineering
·       Lead and execute complex engineering design tasks for aviation, transit, and roadway projects.
·       Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and reports in accordance with FAA, ALDOT, FTA, and local requirements.
·       Utilize Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and other design tools to produce detailed, constructible designs.
·       Apply sound engineering judgment in resolving design and field issues.
·       Maintain accountability for the quality, accuracy, and efficiency of assigned design tasks to ensure profitability and client satisfaction.
·       QA/QC and Technical Review
·       Conduct peer reviews and QA/QC of project deliverables.
·       Ensure compliance with SARCOR’s Gold Standard for technical accuracy and client satisfaction.
·       Identify design risks and propose innovative, cost-effective solutions.
·       Project Coordination & Collaboration
·       Support project managers and team leads with technical input and design deliverables.
·       Coordinate design tasks with complementary disciplines including roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, and environmental teams.
·       Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, and agency representatives to ensure project alignment.
·       Attend project meetings, site visits, client presentations, and public hearings as required.
·       Represent SARCOR with professionalism and responsiveness in all interactions.
·       Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing
·       Serve as a technical resource for junior engineers and CAD staff.
·       Provide guidance on best practices, design standards, and problem-solving approaches.
·       Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing initiatives to strengthen SARCOR’s transportation design practice.
Required Qualifications
·       Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
·       Active Alabama Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
·       8+ years of experience in transportation engineering design (aviation, transit, or roadway).
·       Proven technical design proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and/or OpenRoads.
·       Understanding of FAA, ALDOT, FHWA, and FTA standards.
·       Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, accurate timekeeping, and disciplined task management in alignment with SARCOR standards.
·       Strong written, verbal, and graphical communication skills.

·       Demonstrate SARCOR’s commitment to exceptional customer service and client responsiveness in all interactions.

Preferred Qualifications
·       Experience with ALDOT, county, or municipal design and permitting processes.
·       Familiarity with ESRI GIS, Bluebeam, Power BI, and Factor Project Management Software or similar tools used for project tracking, reporting, and invoicing support.
·       Experience producing bid documents, federal contract deliverables, and construction support documentation.
·       Ability to contribute technical content for proposals or federal contracting documentation as needed.
·       Demonstrated success in delivering multiple concurrent design projects.
·       Active membership in ASCE, NSPE, ACEC, or similar professional organization.
Other Standard Requirements
·       Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
·       Ability to travel locally and regionally for project-related work.
·       Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted and walk significant distances on job sites.
·       Demonstrated professionalism, initiative, and ethical conduct.
