Job description

Description
Performs minimally complex social service work specified for consumers with a substance use diagnosis. The Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) works under the general supervision of an LCDC Supervisor. The primary duties of this position are to assist in the provision of treatment for conditions and problems relating to substance use disorders for both adult and youth outpatient service populations. Conducts or assists in conducting individual and group counseling sessions and instructional sessions. Facilitate and co-facilitate didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions as required per program curriculum per week. Maintain a knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse and dual diagnosis. Complete required assessment, psycho-social history, and testing on all incoming clients; Develop an individual treatment plan for each client within his/her assigned caseload based on program needs; Complete all required documentation and/or required forms for those clients who are assigned to his/her caseload ;Assist in the coordination of client program schedules to ensure the needs of the client and goals set by the individual treatment plan are met; Develop discharge plans and provide follow-up on clients who are released from the program. Required awareness of the Counseling 12 Core Functions of drug and alcohol substance abuse programs and treatment; Basic knowledge of the 12 Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous; Basic knowledge of the criminal justice system; Ability to make accurate and appropriate counselor inferences, assessments, judgments and appropriate referrals to maximize consumer wellbeing. Required basic knowledge of referral and residential placement process within the criminal justice system; ability to assess consumer condition and determine effective treatment alternatives; Personal commitment to uphold and adhere to the Code of Ethics as outlined by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Performs other related duties as required.

  • Provides substance abuse education.
  • Provides Crisis Prevention and Management services when needed.
  • Provides Individual/Family Substance Abuse counseling as identified and outlined in client's recovery plan.
  • Facilitates Relapse/Recovery groups.
  • Facilitates 12 step dual recovery program engagement group.
  • Will assist in drug/alcohol screenings as required.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or University with a major in social work, psychology, or a field to human behavior, plus one (1) year of work experience in an area related to duties of the position.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
Must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern (LCDC-I) licensed to practice in the State of Texas.
All Substance Abuse-related trainings must be completed within 90 days of hire.
