Job description

Through its merger with Oil Search, Santos has acquired and assumed operatorship over a world-class portfolio of oil leases on the Alaskan North Slope, USA.
Our focus in Alaska is advancement of our Pikka Phase 1 project, which includes a single drill site, an oil processing facility, and other infrastructure to support production of 80,000 barrels of oil per day.
Pikka has been identified as being among the top quartile of oil and gas development projects for greenhouse gas emissions performance. Pikka is poised to play an important role in the energy transition and is aligned with our company goal of managing climate change risk.
The Pikka Unit is one of the largest conventional oil discoveries made in the United States in the last 30 years, and the Pikka Phase 1 Project is the most significant development on Alaska's North Slope in more than 20 years.
The permitted Pikka development project includes two additional drill sites. The Alaska assets also include discoveries made from both the Mitquq and Stirrup exploration wells drilled in 2020. These opportunities combine to offer a clear path to long-term growth in Alaska.
Position Purpose
Reporting to the Planning Lead, the Planning Analyst is responsible for robust strategic analysis and decision framing support across the business unit (BU) for consideration/selection of near- to long-term planning and budgeting.
Key criteria for success are to have the resilience and capacity to influence without formal authority key internal and external stakeholders to adopt decision driven work plans.
The Planning Analyst will interface closely with regional and corporate functions and disciplines such as subsurface, HSES, D&C, supply chain, accounting, and others as appropriate, as well as support executive level communications.
The Planning Analyst will also maintain ongoing relationships within the development (including with applicable JV partner, other NS operators, or State of Alaska stakeholders).
Key Accountabilities
Ensure the commercial interests of Santos are protected at all times and that potential liabilities are mitigated.
Work closely with the BU leadership to develop, communicate and execute the short-, medium- and long-term strategy for Santos.
Maintain open communication channels between all functions and disciplines within Alaska and corporate to ensure the cross functional, regional, and corporate goals are aligned.
Manages the long-term business planning process working closely with multidisciplinary technical teams and BU leadership. Clearly articulates business strategic goals across all levels of organization. Responsible for submission of planning cases and cash flow outputs for corporate consolidation.
Manages the planning database and ensures data quality. Works closely with finance & accounting to integrate actuals with short- and long-term forecasting and supports yearly budgeting process.
Extracts and effectively communicates key insights from complex analyses. Leads strategic analysis communication to help bring clarity to project team and decision makers. Able to clearly "tell the story". Challenges project teams to identify gaps prior to reviews.
Strong economic modeler that leads integrated analysis from multidisciplinary technical teams. Understands and sense-checks technical inputs to ensure consistent and realistic assumptions for analysis. Drill into technical concepts, tools and inputs to assess risks and uncertainties and identify opportunities.
Supports internal and external communications with a high level of integrity and precision. Supports visits to Alaska from senior leadership, JV partners, or other external parties.
Able to effectively select from, and apply, deterministic and probabilistic techniques to generate insights for medium to higher complexity opportunities. Able to lead framing and analysis for standard Value of Information analyses.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required
Formal Qualifications
• A Bachelor's and / or Master's degree in geoscience, engineering, business, economics, finance or mathematics.
Skills/Competencies
• A strong commercial and / or business development foundation with a thorough understanding of operating within an exploration and production environment.
• Cash flow/financial evaluation expertise, including high levels of competence with Microsoft Excel.
• Understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry including understanding of Alaskan fiscal regimes.
• Strong communicator able to concisely convey complex messages.
• Experience in partnering with and influencing highly skilled and capable professionals at senior management level.
• Exceptional productivity skills with a strong work ethic, and a reputation for the highest degree of integrity and mature business judgment.
