Job description

Akima Data Management (ADM) is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Senior Cloud Security Architect to design, secure, and optimize enterprise cloud environments. In this role, you will architect resilient cloud solutions, enforce security standards, and ensure that Department of War (DoW) Office of Inspector General (OIG) cloud-based systems uphold the highest levels of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The ideal candidate blends deep cloud security expertise with strong architectural discipline, analytical thinking, and the ability to guide modernization across complex, multi-domain environments. You will define cloud security architectures, integrate zero-trust principles, assess emerging technologies, and ensure that cloud services align with DoW OIG's mission objectives and enterprise security frameworks. Responsibilities * Develop secure cloud architectures across AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments, ensuring alignment with OIG security and mission requirements.
* Define cloud security patterns, guardrails, and reference architectures that support enterprise-wide adoption.
* Design secure interfaces, APIs, and data flows across cloud applications, middleware, and on-premise systems.
* Establish and enforce enterprise cloud security standards, including identity, access, encryption, logging, and monitoring controls.
* Lead the integration of zero-trust principles, secure configuration baselines, and continuous monitoring capabilities.
* Assess current cloud and application inventories to identify integration opportunities, security gaps, and cost-optimization strategies.
* Recommend architectural enhancements that improve performance, resilience, and security posture.
* Define cloud service layering, component dependencies, and cross-domain data flows.
* Collaborate with enterprise architects, cybersecurity teams, and technical leads to ensure cloud development aligns with system models and strategic goals.
* Support the design and delivery of secure custom and COTS cloud solutions.
* Maintain cloud architecture diagrams, security models, version histories, and configuration documentation.
* Ensure cloud services comply with security policies, including RMF, NIST 800-53, and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) requirements.
* Evaluate and monitor cloud service licensing, security tooling, and compliance obligations.
* Conduct proof of concepts to validate architectural decisions and emerging cloud security technologies.
* Partner with project managers, developers, cybersecurity analysts, and mission stakeholders to align cloud security architecture with operational needs.
* Assist in translating mission requirements into secure, scalable cloud designs and technical specifications.
* Produce strategic approach papers outlining enabling technologies, associated risks, and recommended adoption paths.
* Continuously refine cloud architectures to support scalability, automation, and evolving mission demands.
This role is homeported out of Alexandria, VA, and provides support to cybersecurity as required. This role is critical in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of OIG's systems and data. Qualifications * Active Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field and at least 8 years of relevant experience; or 10+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
* Demonstrated expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and cloud security architecture.
* Strong understanding of enterprise platforms, SOA, microservices, and integration frameworks.
* Deep knowledge of cloud security controls, identity and access management, encryption, network segmentation, and secure DevSecOps practices.
* Experience with architecture modeling tools (e.g., UML, ArchiMate) and frameworks such as TOGAF or DoDAF.
* Strong grasp of application lifecycle management, secure software development methodologies, and CI/CD security integration.
* Experience supporting classified or high-security environments is highly preferred.
