PROJECT ENGINEER (AIRPORT)
Employment Type: Full-time - Contract (2-3 years)
Salary: $110,000 to $130,000 (dependent on experience)

Location: Santa Ana, CA
Schedule: Mon-Fri Onsite Night Shift (10:30PM - 5:00AM)
We are seeking experienced Project Engineers to support delivery of airport capital improvement projects at John Wayne Airport. The Project Engineer maintains project documentation, assists with construction administration efforts, collaborates with contractors and designers, and facilitates clear communication among project participants. Responsibilities also include monitoring project status, maintaining tracking logs, supporting budget and schedule oversight, and managing the timely processing and organization of submittals, RFIs, change requests, and other project records.
At this time, the majority of the upcoming work is expected to be performed during night shifts throughout the duration of the projects, with tentative working hours of approximately 10:30 PM to 5:00 AM (subject to change).
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Support Airport Project Managers and Construction Managers with coordination and delivery of airside and landside capital improvement projects.
  • Maintain contract documents, drawings, specifications, and controlled distribution logs.
  • Track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and field directives to ensure timely processing and resolution.
  • Perform field observations to verify work progress and general conformance with contract documents, airport standards, and operational constraints.
  • Prepare daily reports, photo documentation, meeting minutes, and project status updates.
  • Assist with schedule tracking, cost documentation, and progress reporting.
  • Coordinate responses between designers, contractors, airport operations staff, and stakeholders.
  • Support review of contractor payment applications, submittals, and record drawings.
  • Maintain organized project files and assist with closeout documentation and turnover packages.
  • Assist in coordinating construction activities with airport operational requirements, access restrictions, and safety/security procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of construction management experience with at least 1+ year on airport projects
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline
  • Experience working on in active operational facilities
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Familiarity with PM Web, bluebeam software
