What Will You Be Doing?

The Director, Ground Operations Safety sets the long-term strategy and oversees the performance of safety for Frontier Airlines’ ground operations, to include supporting the Airport Customer Service and Technical Operations teams. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team responsible for independent safety oversight and support in all ground operations, including ramp, catering, customer service, ground service equipment, industrial safety, and employee injury management. Additionally, this role will oversee the company emergency response program. 

This role works in a cross-functional manner to ensure appropriate ground safety standards are established and maintained to provide the highest level of safety for Frontier Airlines operations.

Essential Functions

  • Set long-term strategy for Frontier Airlines ground operations safety through regular assessment and active mitigation of all potential operations risks.
  • Leads and develops safety team responsible for ground operations safety, OSHA compliance, employee injury management, and emergency response by providing performance management and ongoing feedback while fostering a strong team environment.
  • Builds strong partnerships with key stakeholders on the management and improvement of ACS and Maintenance safety performance.
  • Drives continuous improvement in Aircraft Ground Damage (AGD), including regular facilitation of the AGD Review Board, initiatives, metrics, and analyses.
  • Lead the development and on-going management of business partner safety standards.
  • Lead and continuously improve the ground safety investigation process, to include high severity incidents, aircraft ground damage, and significant employee injury incidents
  • Ensures operating division procedures, processes, policies, equipment, and facilities are adequate to maintain a safe and compliant work environment for all employees and customers.
  • Serves as Frontier Airlines representative to outside trade and government agencies for ground safety issues.
  • Oversees and ensure compliance with all national and local occupational, industrial, and environmental requirements
  • Oversees and ensures a robust Emergency Response plan is in place and actively tested

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 8 years of aviation or airline industry experience
    • Minimum of 5 years’ leadership experience
    • Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of a degree

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Demonstrated experience leading airport/ramp operations with a record of improving safety performance
    • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS)
    • Innovative, apolitical, resilient, fact-based, and creative solutions-focused mindset, with ability to thrive in a rapidly-changing, collaborative environment and to manage conflict
    • Demonstrated ability to quickly scope situations, develop an accurate understanding of risks, and develop plans responsive to those risks.
    • Professional work ethic and demonstrated ability to work with all work groups while addressing people courageously, directly, and candily.
    • Ability and willingness to travel 30% of the time.
    • Outstanding communication (verbal, written, and listening) and presentation skills, with a demonstrated commitment to clear and transparent communication.

    Work Environment

    • This role can be based at our headquarters in Denver, CO OR in a city serviced Frontier airport in the United States via a remote work arrangement (periodic travel to Denver from a Frontier-serviced city required)
    • If remote, you must be able to follow our remote work policies, including ability and comfort level working from home with access to a high-speed internet connection
    • If headquarters-based, typical office environment, adequately heated and cooled
    • Office, airport ramp, airplane cabin, maintenance hangar

     Physical Effort 

    Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.

    Supervision Received

    Consultant to Management:  The incumbent exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.

    Salary Range: $123,462 - $163,873 DOE
