BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • 1+ years of experience working with non-porous metals, such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless
  • 1+ years of experience working with schematics, specifications, assembly drawings and standard operating procedures
  • 1+ years of experience using structures hand tools such as: drills 45 and 90 degrees, pancake adapters, counter sink cages, hole finders, and rivet guns stringers, webs, seat tracks, etc.) to aircraft


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills. This worker reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. This mechanic performs 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves, inspects jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments. Inspects jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks, tests engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and jet calibration (Jetcal) tester, to locate source of malfunction. Work involves: replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft. Duties may include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation to critical support structures and fracture critical areas
  • Locate blind holes necessary for installation of new structural items to existing structure
  • Perform efforts associated with sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving structure in accordance with standard repair processes
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specification, and retrofit requirements to perform structural modification/repair
  • Use tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot level modification and repair of structural parts
  • Knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components
  • Knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems
  • Knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
  • Access aircraft data via computer systems and initiate on-line parts and discrepancy requests
  • Maintain necessary certifications, licenses and permits as required for assigned work
  • Ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift loads of approximately 35 pounds
  • Ensure working environment is deemed safe for access and job task performance via Hazardous Energy and Lock Out /Tag systems applications
  • Assist other team members (General Mechanics, Avionics, Electronics) to ensure cost/schedule targets are met
  • The position requires the ability to pass an assessment at the end of training cycle
  • The position requires compliance to SA Site Tool and FOD procedure


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • Experience in aircraft heavy maintenance (C17 Depot Level)
  • Experience working with titanium aircraft structures


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The candidate must be able to ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift loads of approximately 35 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, mobile crane, and riding type electric powered elevating equipment
  • Exposure to noise, working on elevated platforms
  • Use personal protective gear for face, eyes, ears, hand, and arms as required.
  • Pass visual acuity and color perception tests
  • Read, write, and comprehend the English language
  • Handle, use, and dispose of hazardous material
  • Obtain & maintain training certifications as required to support assignment responsibilities
  • Occasional (1 to 3 hrs) finger manipulation
  • On occasion, a 2-person lift may be necessary for weights greater than 50 lbs
  • Frequent reaching overhead (3 to 6 hrs)
  • Frequent walking on flat surfaces
  • Frequent standing flat or uneven surfaces
  • Frequent balancing on a ladder, steps, or uneven surfaces
  • Occasional climbing on 3-12 ft ladders or stands

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Minimum level of education required is a High School Diploma/GED.


WORK HOURS

FULL TIME/VARIABLE SHIFT: Ability to work variable shifts (i.e. scheduled and unscheduled overtime; weekends and holidays) to support mission requirements and workload.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • This role is supporting a contract that is governed by SCA. Occupation Code and Title: 23021/Aircraft Mechanic I -Minimum Hourly Rate= $35.91/hour Additional Hourly Benefit Allowance=$5.09Health & Welfare Benefit (paid for all straight time hours worked up to 40 hours per week)


VACATION: 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 year of service; 3 weeks paid vacation after 5 years of service; 4 weeks paid vacation after 15 years of service.


HOLIDAY PAY: 11 paid holidays per year. New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth National Independence Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.


ACCRUAL OF SICK LEAVE HOURS: 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 56 hours of paid sick leave each year.
