Job description

NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue is America's oldest public hospital, established in 1736. Affiliated with the NYU School of Medicine, the 844-bed hospital is a major referral center for highly complex cases, with its 6,000 employees including highly skilled, interdisciplinary clinical staff. It sees more than 110,000 emergency room visits and 700,000 outpatient visits annually. Bellevue is an academic medical institution of international renown. We have served as an incubator for major innovations in public health, medical science, and medical education. Bellevue is a Level I Trauma Center delivering around-the-clock care in adult, pediatric, psychiatric and pediatric psychiatric emergencies as well as in the nationally-designated categories of cardiology, neurology, toxicology, and neonatology. In addition to providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient state-of-the-art care Bellevue is a city-wide medical specialty referral source. Bellevue's clinical centers of excellence include: Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care; Cardiovascular Services; Designated Regional Perinatal Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU); Comprehensive Children's Psychiatric Emergency Program; and Cancer Services.

Work Shifts
11:00 P.M - 7:30 A.M
Weekend and holiday rotation required.
*Please note: this is a part-time position working no more than 19.5 hours per week.*
Duties & Responsibilities
Purpose of Position:
Under direct supervision of a Professional Nurse, Practical Nurse or other assigned professional staff member, performs activities and procedures of a non-professional nature involving direct relationships with patients, or participates as a member of a treatment, nursing, medical, health care team in implementing appropriate regimens.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Assists with physical care of selected patients. Performs assigned procedures such as changing of simple dressings, taking vital signs, giving enemas, etc. Records personal care given.
2. Prepares patient for examination by performing assigned procedures such as temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight and measurements, and assists in the examination process and records findings on patient chart.
3. Observes patients' and/or families' condition, mental state and social behavior. Reports observations.
4. Participates in nursing and interdisciplinary health team conferences to assess patients' and families' needs and to plan nursing care programs.
5. Assists in recreational, remotivational and resocialization activities of nursing care programs.
6. Sets up and arranges examining room.
7. Assists clinic in admission procedures and in regulation of visitors. Cares for patients' clothing and property.
8. Prepares patients for meals and helps feed them as necessary.
9. Changes linen and makes beds. Keeps wards, utility and treatment rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
10. Provides postmortem care.
11. Maintains clinical competence by attending continuing education programs.
12. Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduation from elementary school.
2. Successful completion of a basic skills training program for Nurse Aides, or its equivalent.
