Job description

A rapidly growing, venture-backed AI software company is seeking a commercially minded Counsel to join its legal team as the second legal hire, working directly alongside the General Counsel. This is a unique opportunity to help build and scale the legal function within a high-growth business operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence, enterprise software, and scientific innovation.


The Opportunity

This role offers broad exposure across commercial, regulatory, corporate, employment, and intellectual property matters. You'll partner closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives while helping establish the legal infrastructure needed to support continued global growth.


Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage complex enterprise SaaS agreements, including customer, vendor, and technology-related contracts.
  • Advise on privacy, data governance, and emerging AI regulatory matters, including GDPR, CCPA, and cross-border data transfer requirements.
  • Support intellectual property strategy, technology licensing, and protection of proprietary technology and data assets.
  • Partner with HR and business leaders on employment-related matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Assist with corporate governance, financing transactions, M&A activities, and international expansion initiatives.
  • Develop scalable legal processes, templates, playbooks, and operational workflows.


Ideal Background

  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
  • 5โ€“10+ years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience within a SaaS, AI, or enterprise technology environment.
  • Strong commercial contracting skills with the ability to independently negotiate complex agreements.
  • Experience advising on a range of legal matters including privacy, IP, employment, and corporate governance.
  • Interest in emerging technologies, AI regulation, and fast-evolving legal frameworks.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-growth environment where autonomy, sound judgment, and adaptability are essential.
