General Information
The Department of Psychology in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology beginning August 2027.
This position is closely linked to our newly established Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology, a program designed to prepare students for advanced study in graduate programs and careers the health professions. The BS curriculum emphasizes research methods, statistics, psychobiology, and health science, and this faculty member will play a central role in shaping its identity and trajectory. This is a tenure-track position with 50% of faculty time devoted to research, reflecting Chapman's commitment to supporting a community of teacher-scholars.
Current areas of research expertise in the department include health psychology, cognitive neuroscience, computational psychology, affective science, and developmental science. We welcome faculty whose area of expertise adds to or complements current areas of strength in our faculty.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a rigorous and productive scholarly program with strong potential for extramural funding
  • Teach undergraduate courses in areas of expertise and develop new courses aligned with departmental needs
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students
  • Contribute to unit, college, and university service, including the ongoing development of the BS in Psychology program
  • Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching and service.

Qualifications
We are seeking a scholar who brings rigorous scientific foundations to the study of psychological health and its real-world applications. Example topics include, but are not limited to, digital and AI-assisted approaches to psychological care; evidence-based strategies for treatment personalization; and transdiagnostic approaches to psychopathology. We welcome all strong candidates from across the psychological sciences and are especially interested in those with expertise in clinical/counseling psychology or a research focus with direct clinical applications.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field.
  • A record of, or clear potential for, high-level scholarly activity.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $115,000, with the highest salary reserved for the most experienced candidate. Start-up packages are competitive and will be based on experience, rank, and funding status. Teaching load is consistent with R2 status and will accommodate 50% time devoted to research activities.
This position is contingent on final budget approval.
