Ai Policy Internship information

What is an AI policy internship?

An AI Policy Internship is a position where interns work on projects related to the ethical, legal, and social implications of artificial intelligence. Interns may research and analyze legislation, help draft policy recommendations, or assist with advocacy and public outreach. These internships are often offered by think tanks, government agencies, non-profits, and tech companies, and provide valuable experience for those interested in how AI technologies are governed and regulated.

What types of projects and collaborations can I expect during an AI policy internship?

As an AI Policy Intern, you will typically work on research projects analyzing the societal and regulatory impacts of artificial intelligence. You may collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal experts, data scientists, and public policy professionals, to draft policy recommendations, prepare briefing materials, and monitor legislative developments. Interns often participate in meetings with stakeholders or external partners, providing support for advocacy initiatives and public consultations. This diverse project experience helps interns build a solid foundation in both the technical and ethical considerations shaping AI policy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI policy intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Policy Intern, you need a solid understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, public policy analysis, and strong research abilities, often supported by coursework or a degree in public policy, law, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with policy research tools, data analysis software, and platforms such as LexisNexis or government databases is typically required. Excellent written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills help you convey complex ideas and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. These skills are vital to contribute meaningful insights, draft policy recommendations, and support informed decision-making in the evolving field of AI governance.
