Job description
Based in any U.S. office (New York preferred), Legal Technology & AI Attorney - Real Estate will sit at the intersection of legal practice, technology, and experimentation within the Real Estate Practice Group. This role is designed for a lawyer with a strong transactional foundation who is deeply engaged with how AI, technology, and new ways of working are reshaping legal practice and will continue to transform legal practice in the years to come.
The ideal candidate brings substantive credibility to earn the trust of practicing lawyers, combined with an innovator's mindset energized by designing, testing, and scaling new tools, workflows, and systems. As part of the Knowledge Management & AI Group, this position collaborates across offices and administrative teams-including Research, Practice Group Management, and Information Technology-to translate emerging technology into practical, high-impact tools for lawyers and clients.
This role reports to the Sr. Director & Counsel of Knowledge & AI.
Responsibilities include:
AI, Technology & Innovation
- Identify opportunities to apply AI, automation, and emerging technologies to real estate legal work, informed by a strong understanding of transactional practice and lawyer workflows.
- Evaluate, prototype, and implement AI-assisted tools, document automation solutions, and technology-enabled workflows to enhance efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
- Participate in technology pilots and assessments, including AI-driven research, drafting, knowledge extraction, and real estate data and market analytics platforms.
- Collaborate with attorneys, technologists, and administrative teams to design practical, user-centered tools that reflect real-world legal judgment and practice needs.
- Lead training sessions for attorneys and staff to promote the effective use of knowledge systems, AI tools, and new workflows.
- Capture feedback from lawyers and stakeholders to support continuous improvement of KM products, processes, and technology adoption.
Knowledge & Practice Support
- Develop, implement, and maintain knowledge management resources across a spectrum of real estate transactions, including acquisitions/dispositions, financing, development, leasing, joint ventures, land use, and related disciplines.
- Review, update, and rationalize standard templates, forms, and precedents to ensure accuracy and consistency with current laws, regulations, market practice, and Firm standards, as well as suitability for use in technology-enabled workflows.
- Ensure that technology-enabled outputs reflect current market terms, deal structures, and regulatory realities.
- Identify, draft, and maintain guidance materials, playbooks, and reference content that support both lawyers and AI-assisted systems.
- Serve as a trusted internal resource for real estate lawyers, providing practical legal judgment and guidance while translating substantive expertise into scalable knowledge and technology solutions.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated passion for AI and emerging technology, including a strong perspective on how such tools can be applied to real estate legal practice and workflows.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, technologists, and administrative professionals.
- Strong initiative and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Creative and strategic thinker who is open to experimentation, iteration, and multiple approaches to complex problems.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines concurrently.
- Commitment to knowledge-sharing, efficiency, and excellence in legal work, with a focus on client service and business impact.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across practice groups and departments.
Experience:
- A J.D., Bachelor of Laws, or equivalent with strong academic credentials; must be admitted to practice and in good standing in the state where they will be based.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in real estate legal practice; other transactional backgrounds will be considered on a case by case basis.
- Demonstrated ability to apply legal training to new contexts, including workflow design, tool development, or process improvement efforts; personal or professional coding or tech-related building experience is very highly valued.
