What is an Ag?

Ags is an abbreviation that can refer to several job titles, but it most commonly stands for 'Agricultural Specialists' or 'Agronomists.' These professionals work in the agriculture industry to improve crop production, advise farmers on best practices, and conduct research on soil, plants, and agricultural techniques. They may also be involved in ensuring food safety, sustainability, and compliance with regulations. Their work can take place in the field, laboratories, or offices, depending on their specific role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an agricultural scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Agricultural Scientist, you need a strong background in biology, chemistry, and agronomy, typically supported by a bachelor’s or master’s degree in agriculture or related fields. Familiarity with laboratory analysis tools, data modeling software, and geographic information systems (GIS) is commonly required. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with farmers and stakeholders. These skills and qualities are crucial for advancing sustainable agricultural practices and addressing food security challenges.

What are some common challenges faced by agricultural scientists when working on sustainable farming projects?

Agricultural Scientists often encounter challenges such as balancing productivity with environmental sustainability, adapting to changing climate conditions, and addressing the diverse needs of stakeholders like farmers, agribusinesses, and policymakers. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential, as is staying updated on the latest research and technologies. Successfully navigating these complexities requires strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a willingness to continually learn from both data and field experience.

Job Summary

Turn your passion for cards into a career.

AGS Grading is looking for passionate, dependable people to join our growing team. If you’re into Pokémon, sports cards, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering, or collectibles in general, this is an opportunity to work directly inside the hobby you already love.

We’re hiring entry-level team members across several areas of our card grading operation, including scanning, receiving, slabbing, production, and shipping.

No previous grading experience is required. We will train the right people.

At AGS, we believe strongly in promoting from within. We want team members who are interested in learning the business, developing new skills, taking on more responsibility, and growing with the company.

Whether you're looking for a full-time career in the collectibles industry or a part-time opportunity working around cards and hobby culture, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Depending on your position and training, responsibilities may include:
  • Carefully handling trading cards and other collectibles
  • Scanning and imaging cards using AGS systems and equipment
  • Receiving, organizing, and processing customer submissions
  • Verifying cards and orders for accuracy
  • Encapsulating and slabbing graded cards
  • Performing quality-control checks on finished slabs
  • Preparing completed orders for shipment
  • Safely packaging valuable collectibles
  • Verifying outgoing shipments for accuracy
  • Maintaining an organized and clean workstation
  • Following AGS handling, security, and production procedures
  • Working efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Collaborating with other members of the AGS team
  • Cross-training in different areas of the grading operation as needed
  • As you gain experience, there may be opportunities to learn additional parts of the grading process and take on greater responsibility within the company.

Requirements

  • This is an entry-level position — previous professional card grading experience is not required.
  • We’re looking for people who:
  • Have an interest in trading cards, sports cards, collectibles, gaming, or hobby culture
  • Have strong attention to detail
  • Can handle valuable collectibles carefully and responsibly
  • Are reliable, punctual, and consistent
  • Can follow detailed processes and instructions
  • Are organized and comfortable keeping track of multiple items
  • Can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Are comfortable performing repetitive, detail-oriented tasks
  • Have a positive attitude and work well as part of a team
  • Are willing to learn new systems, equipment, and processes
  • Want an opportunity to grow within the company
  • Experience with card shops, collectibles, shipping and fulfillment, warehouse operations, scanning, production, or quality control is a plus — but not required.
  • Most importantly, we're looking for people who care about the hobby and want to grow with AGS.
  • We believe great employees can start anywhere in the company. AGS prioritizes developing our team and promoting from within whenever possible
  • If you love cards, care about details, and want to build a career in the collectibles industry, apply to join AGS Grading.
