The Arapahoe County government serves its communities in ways both obvious and obscure. This position is temporary part-time with an anticipated length of about 4 weeks and will have a work schedule of approximately 3 hours per day for the beginning of October, approximately 4-6 hours per day for the end of October, 10-12 hours on November 2nd, 12-16 hours on November 3rd, and about 6 hours on November 4th (final day of assignment).

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Elections Agilis Assistant is a temporary/seasonal position responsible for assisting with the operation of the Agilis envelope sorting machine. It requires gaining an understanding of the Agilis machine to properly support county staff and a high volume of official ballot return envelopes. The Assistant supports all components of Agilis operation, including running a computer control interface, manually loading envelopes into a feeder, removing envelopes from sorting, and daily maintenance. Ideal candidates will be prepared for logical troubleshooting, long periods of standing, and attention to detail.

DUTIES:

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify the duties of the job.

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the operation of the Agilis envelope sorting machine.

  • Assist the Signature Verification Project Manager as needed.

  • Operate the Agilis machine in any capacity required for optimal workflow.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and software issues that may arise.

  • Communicate with Project Manager and Election Judges on timing, progress, and needs.

  • Transfer trays of ballot envelopes between ballot processing teams.

  • Assist Signature Verification judges with research and envelope reconciliation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Receives immediate supervision from the Voter Systems Trainer. May receive supervision from additional members of the county Elections Division.

REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to quickly learn software and mechanical skillsets for the operation of large machinery.

  • Ability to communicate with temporary election judges and county staff, professionally and diplomatically, and follow directions.

  • Ability to stand, lift large volumes of envelopes, and move heavy items for long periods of time.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to confidently and effectively interact with a group of people.

  • Comfortable with completing any other tasks not related to Agilis as needed.

BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to multi-task calmly and adapt to changing environments.

  • Ability to adhere to a dependable schedule, which may include overtime or weekends.

EDUCATION:

  • High School or GED required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with computers and machinery.

  • Experience working in a warehouse environment.

  • Experience in elections or with elections equipment highly desirable.

  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the job requirements may suffice.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

All work is done at the Arapahoe County Warehouse for trainings and work-related items.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.

Operating an Agilis machine requires a lot of repetitive motion and standing.

  • Constantly standing, with breaks between machine runs.

  • Frequently lifts, carries, pulls, or pushed up to 50 lbs.

  • Frequently uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 50 pounds.

  • Frequently climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches.

  • Frequently twists back to transfer large amounts of envelopes between holders and machinery.

  • Constantly grabs large amount of envelopes in hands for long periods of time.

  • Constantly use eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of machinery or equipment.
