An Aggregate Driver is responsible for transporting materials such as gravel, sand, and crushed stone to construction sites, plants, or other locations. Aggregate Drivers frequently work with construction crews, quarries, and material suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.
A typical day for an Aggregate Driver involves performing pre-trip vehicle inspections, loading aggregates like sand, gravel, or crushed stone at quarries or plants, and safely delivering them to construction sites or clients. Drivers communicate closely with dispatch and site personnel to coordinate schedules, adapt to changing job requirements, and ensure accurate deliveries. Many aggregate drivers make multiple deliveries per day and may need to navigate a variety of job site conditions. Attention to safety procedures and proper documentation are ongoing priorities. This role offers the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a larger team supporting construction projects.
To thrive as an Aggregate Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), good driving record, and experience handling large vehicles such as dump trucks or cement mixers. Familiarity with GPS navigation, vehicle inspection protocols, and electronic logging devices is important for efficient and safe transport. Reliability, situational awareness, and strong communication skills help aggregate drivers work effectively with dispatchers, site crews, and customers. These skills ensure safe material delivery, minimize downtime, and support teamwork in fast-paced construction or industrial settings.
