REPORTS TO:ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Principal

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Middle School Counselor is to help students develop their personal, academic academic and social emotional goals toย assist them in successfully navigatingย the social, physicalย and personalย pressures encountered in the transition from adolescent years to adulthood.ย The Middle School Counselor will:

  1. Work with various public agencies to provide educational programs for theย betterment of students.
  2. Encourage and facilitate the exploration of college and career planning throughย ย through plannedย activities.
  3. Remain readily available to studentsย to provide counseling servicesย that will lead each student to increased personal, academic, and college/career success.
  4. Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problemsย related to such issues as home, family and peer relationships.
  5. Establish and facilitate a line of communication between the school and the home.
  6. Provide guidance for teachers in supportingย student's social emotional healthย whileย maintaining confidentiality.
  7. Register students who are new to the school and provide the support necessary inย order to ease the transition into a new school environment.
  8. Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality. To include, nut not limited to:

  • complete reports to social agencies
  1. Assist in the disbursement of student outcomes such as progress and assessment reports, report cards, and college and career readiness plans.
  2. Recommend students as necessary for psychological evaluation with regards toย physical, learning, or emotional difficulties.
  3. Organize and supervise the administration of Statewide testing.
  4. Assume building principal's duties in the absence of both the building principal andย the assistant principal.
  5. Facilitate the transition to the high school through cooperation with the high schoolย counselors when scheduling for the 9th grade.
  6. Assist in the development of the master schedule and scheduling ofย students.
