About This Role

The Before and After School Age Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, structured, and engaging environment for school-age children during before-school and after-school hours. This role includes supervising children, assisting with homework when needed, and planning age-appropriate activities that promote social interaction, creativity, and physical activity.


The teacher ensures that all children are accounted for at all times, maintains proper supervision ratios, and follows all center policies and safety procedures. Responsibilities include communicating effectively with parents and staff, supporting positive behavior guidance, and helping children develop independence, respect for others, and problem-solving skills.


The Before and After School Age Teacher also helps maintain a clean and organized classroom or activity space, prepares materials for daily activities, and works collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a smooth transition between school and childcare programs.


This position requires patience, strong communication skills, and the ability to create a welcoming environment where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged to learn and grow.


This is a part time position when Southwest Dubois school corporation is in session. When they are out of school, the position would be full time. Part time hours would be 6:30am-7:45Am and 2:45pm-5:45 pm Monday through Friday. This position would start in August when school starts.


What You'll Do
  • Provide active supervision of school-age children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Maintain proper child-to-staff ratios in accordance with licensing regulations and center policies.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that promote learning, creativity, social interaction, and physical activity.
  • Assist children with homework and provide guidance when needed.
  • Promote positive behavior by modeling respectful communication and using appropriate behavior guidance techniques.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between school, transportation, and the childcare program.
  • Conduct regular headcounts and ensure all children are accounted for during activities, transitions, and outdoor play.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom and activity areas.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with parents, guardians, and fellow staff members.
  • Follow all center policies, safety procedures, and state licensing regulations.
  • Report any concerns regarding childrenโ€™s safety, behavior, or well-being to administration immediately.
  • Assist with snack distribution and ensure proper hygiene practices such as handwashing.
  • Support teamwork by assisting other staff when needed to maintain supervision and program quality.

Requirements
  • Must have a high school diploma
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be committed to working scheduled hours
