About This Role

The Before and After School Age Teacher fosters a nurturing environment for school-age children during before-school and after-school hours, balancing structure and engagement to promote learning, creativity, and social interaction. This critical role involves active supervision, assisting with homework, and planning activities that cater to diverse interests and abilities. By maintaining open communication with parents and staff, this teacher plays a vital role in supporting positive behavior guidance and helping children develop essential life skills.


The Before and After School Age Teacher ensures seamless transitions between school and childcare programs, collaborating with colleagues to guarantee a smooth and safe experience for all children. This position demands patience, effective communication, and the ability to create a welcoming atmosphere where children feel valued, supported, and encouraged to grow.


This is a part-time position during the Southwest Dubois school corporation's regular session. When the schools are closed, the role becomes full-time. The part-time schedule will be from 6:30am-7:45am and 2:45pm-5:45 pm, Monday through Friday. This position is expected to begin in August, coinciding with the start of the school year.


What You'll Do
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of school-age children through continuous active supervision.
  • Adhere to proper child-to-staff ratios as outlined in licensing regulations and center policies.
  • Develop and execute engaging, age-appropriate activities that foster learning, creativity, social interaction, and physical activity.
  • Provide assistance with homework and guidance as needed to support children's academic progress.
  • Maintain a positive environment by modeling respectful communication and employing appropriate behavior guidance techniques.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions between school, transportation, and the childcare program to ensure a seamless experience for children.
  • Conduct regular headcounts to verify the presence of all children during activities, transitions, and outdoor play.
  • Ensure the classroom and activity spaces remain clean, safe, and organized.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, guardians, and fellow staff members.
  • Comply with all center policies, safety procedures, and state licensing regulations.
  • Immediately report any concerns regarding children's safety, behavior, or well-being to administration.
  • Participate in snack distribution and maintain proper hygiene practices such as handwashing.
  • Support team efforts by assisting colleagues when necessary to maintain supervision and program quality.
