Job description

Montgomery Broadcasting is looking for an energetic, versatile Assistant Sports Director to join our locally owned, community-focused broadcast team in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This is a hands-on opportunity to build experience across radio, television, digital media and live sports streaming, covering everything from local high school athletics to University of Wyoming athletics and Denver professional teams. You’ll also host KFBC's daily afternoon sports talk show and provide live play-by-play of area sporting events. Learn from the best! You’ll work alongside and receive mentorship from experienced Wyoming broadcasters, including Sports Director and Voice of the Wyoming Cowboys Keith Kelley, while developing your skills in sports reporting, play-by-play, interviewing, writing, broadcasting and digital media.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and host KFBC's afternoon sports talk show "The Sports Zone," every weekday 4-6pm.
  • Provide live radio and television play-by-play for local high school sporting events, including football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball and American Legion baseball.
  • Produce and deliver local sports reports and stories covering Cheyenne and Wyoming high school sports, University of Wyoming athletics, Denver professional sports and regional sports
  • Assist with video production and live streaming of local sports
  • Work collaboratively with the sales department on promotions, sponsorships and other projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, broadcasting or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in sports broadcasting, journalism or a related field preferred.
  • Strong on-air communication and interviewing skills.
  • Experience with digital audio editing software.
  • Familiarity with video production, video editing and live streaming highly desirable.
  • Ability to research, write and deliver accurate sports news under deadline.
  • Comfortable working independently while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed for sporting events and station programming.
