Research Analyst

The Research Analyst supports the Illinois Community College Board's data collection, analysis, reporting, and accountability functions by assisting with the collection, review, processing, and analysis of data submitted by colleges, adult education providers, and other stakeholders. This position helps prepare reports, data visualizations, surveys, and required state and federal submissions; supports ICCB's annual reporting cycle; contributes to IPEDS and MIS-related work; and collaborates with internal and external partners to ensure accurate, consistent, and meaningful use of data across agency programs and initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Management

  • Assist in collecting, coordinating, and processing data submitted by the colleges and adult education providers, including
    maintaining logs and reviewing data submissions for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Assist with developing, updating, and testing surveys to gather necessary data and information.
  • Utilize software employed by the agency to gather, collect, analyze, and distribute data and information to various
    stakeholders.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Perform calculations on manual and computerized data to create data visualizations and reports; prepare analyses and reports
    based on ICCB's annual reporting cycle.
  • Assist with data and research requests from constituents and stakeholders that may require the preparation of data analyses
    and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of data reports for state and federal agencies and the compilation of data for end-of-year federal
    accountability measures.
  • Compile data and complete reports for the ICCB Recognition process and other grant monitoring processes.

Data Systems and Technical Resources

  • Assist with Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) reporting and revising the Management Information
    System (MIS) Manual, which serves as ICCB's schema/data dictionary guiding all data elements and definitions used for
    collection within the ICCB Centralized Data System.
  • Assist the division with updating content on the ICCB website, the MIS Data Collection Portal, and other web resources in
    collaboration with Information Technology and other divisions.

Communication and Liaison Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings and make oral and written presentations.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Research and Analytics Division, the Information Technology Division, other ICCB divisions,
    and external stakeholders.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include occasional travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social science, or a related field with a minimum of two courses in statistics
  • Two years of educational and/or other research experience
Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in research methods, information technology/computer science, mathematics, education, social science or a
    closely related field
  •  Experience with data manipulation and analysis through statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, SAS, or SPSS)
  • At least two years of experience at a state education agency or institution of higher education
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with survey software (e.g., JotForm, Survey Monkey, Qualtrics) and survey design
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with, or adequate knowledge of, the community college system

Those job qualifications are used in evaluating each applicants' educational background and experience in order to determine their eligibility for employment. The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials are required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. Register will be cleared after position is filled.

This position requires a criminal background investigation and, if applicable, an employment history review. Any offer of employment is contingent upon successfully passing these checks. Employment may not commence until the results of the background investigation have been reviewed and approved by Human Resources.
