Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Friends of Kathleen Clendaniel is building a people-powered campaign to elect Katie Clendaniel to the Maryland State Senate in District 37. We are seeking students and community members who want meaningful, hands on experience helping organize Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot, and Wicomico Counties.

Field work is the heart of this opportunity. Interns will knock doors, make calls, recruit supporters, and help run events. interns may also choose projects in digital media, finance and fundraising, communications, research, or campus outreach based on their interests and campaign needs.


ROLE OVERVIEW

Position: Student Campaign Internship

Reports to: Campaign staff

Location: Maryland Senate District 37, including Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot, and Wicomico Counties. Some remote projects are available.

Term: Immediately through Election Day

Commitment: Flexible. Five to ten hours per week is encouraged. Evening and weekend opportunities are available.

Status: This is an unpaid internship opportunity.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Speak with voters through canvassing and phone banking using campaign approved scripts and tools.
  • Recruit classmates, friends, and neighbors to intern/volunteeer and attend campaign events.
  • Help prepare and staff canvass launches, phone banks, community events, and campus activities.
  • Conduct supporter follow up and record voter contact and volunteer activity accurately.
  • Represent Katie and the campaign with warmth, respect, reliability, and good judgment.
  • Work with campaign staff to take ownership of clear goals and complete assignments on time.
OPTIONAL PROJECT TRACKS

Every intern will support voter contact. Depending on interest and campaign needs, interns may also contribute to:

  • Campus outreach and student recruitment
  • Digital media and content creation
  • Finance and fundraising
  • Communications and earned media
  • Research and policy
  • Event planning and volunteer operations


WHAT YOU WILL GAIN

  • Access to a smartphone and the internet is helpful. Transportation is helpful but not required.


SCHEDULE AND SUPPORT

Schedules are flexible and can be built around classes, work, and family responsibilities. Most voter contact takes place during afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Campaign staff will provide training, clear assignments, and ongoing support.
