Job Summary

The Part-Time Liturgy Coordinator assists the Director of Music & Liturgy in the preparation and execution of the parish's liturgical life by coordinating weekend liturgies, sacramental celebrations, liturgical ministers, and the care of the church environment. The coordinator ensures that parish liturgies are prepared with excellence while working collaboratively with clergy, parish staff, and volunteers.


Ministerial Character

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church - Bryan which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Bryan help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.



Essential Duties

Weekend and Daily Liturgy Coordination (6–7 hrs/week)

  • Prepare clergy binders with announcements, Universal Prayers, and special blessings.
  • Prepare the church and sacristy for weekend Masses and Holy Days, including candles, vessels, books, linens, and other liturgical needs.
  • Ensure liturgical ministers are scheduled and present using Ministry Scheduler Pro.
  • Coordinate readings, liturgical ministers, and rehearsals for weekly Elementary School Masses.
  • Provide afternoon office coverage for the Director of Music & Liturgy one to two afternoons each week during the school year while they teach at the parish school.

Sacramental and Special Liturgy Coordination (5–6 hrs/week average)

Coordinate the logistical preparation of weddings, funeral liturgies, confirmations, First Holy Communion, Holy Days, Reconciliation services, major parish celebrations, and other diocesan liturgies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Meeting with families to plan funerals.
  • Preparing funeral and wedding liturgy materials.
  • Coordinating deacons, altar servers, and liturgical ministers.
  • Assisting with wedding rehearsals as needed.
  • Coordinating with parish staff and the Chancery when appropriate.
  • Preparing the annual All Souls remembrance list.

Liturgical Minister Scheduling & Support (3–4 hrs/week)

  • Maintain Ministry Scheduler Pro including logins and lists of active ministers.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of liturgical ministers with a volunteer leader.
  • Assist the Director of Music & Liturgy with ministry training and recruitment as needed.
  • Assist with coordination of the Altar Server Program.

Church Environment & Sacristy Oversight (2-3 hrs/week)

  • Purchase liturgical supplies within the approved budget.
  • Ensure the sacristy and worship spaces remain organized and prepared.
  • Coordinate seasonal church decorations and flowers.
  • Maintain liturgical linens and vestments with the Women's Guild.
  • Maintain inventories of liturgical books, vessels, candles, and supplies

Administrative Support and Collaborations (2-3hrs/week)

  • Attend monthly parish staff meetings.
  • Attend weekly liturgy planning meetings.
  • Collaborate with Faith Formation regarding sacramental celebrations.
  • Collaborate with the Homebound Ministry Coordinator to maintain necessary supplies.
  • Maintain communication with clergy and ministry coordinators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of liturgical guidelines and music in Catholic worship
  • Knowledge of musical instruments and hymns used in liturgical settings
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Able to work well with others in the school community

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree

Experience:

  • Experience with liturgical planning and guidelines

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Working Conditions

  • Required to work some nights and weekends
  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
  • All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
  • The Parish is an at-will employer.
  • All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
  • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
  • Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
