Job description

Position: Program Leader - After School Childcare 

Rate: $19.00/hour

Join the Children's Programs team at Foothills where you can enjoy the adventure and laughter of after school programs while working in a fun, supportive, and collaborative environment. Program Leaders assist with coordinating the daily operations of after school programs; planning and implementing activities, enforcing regulations, and implementing and maintaining an appropriate safe recreational and learning environment for the children. This position is a part-time position running from 2:15/2:30pm-6:00 pm during regular school days. During extended school breaks (Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, etc.) program hours are from 6:45am-6:00pm, Monday through Friday.

This position is for individuals at least 18 years old and who have documented experience working with kids in a childcare or teaching environment. This position is ideal for anyone looking for additional teaching or leadership experience.

Positions are available at the following After-School Locations: Devinny Elementary, Hutchinson Elementary

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the daily supervision and care of youth ages 5-12.
  • Maintain a safe environment for program participants and ensure that proper safety precautions are being followed during programs, field trips, and all excursions.
  • Facilitate activities such as arts, science, building and dramatic play in a classroom setting or gross motor games in the gym or outside.
  • Assist in the daily set-up and delivery of program by organizing daily routines, snacks and meals, playground supervision while maintaining a clean and orderly environment and care of program materials and supplies.
  • Collaborate with other after school staff to plan activities and build a place where we all love to work and play.
  • Communicate effectively, professionally, and regularly with the supervisor, teammates and families through verbal and written communication; maintain confidentiality.
  • Cultivate an inviting and nurturing environment for every child.
  • Build trusting relationships while using excellent judgment with children, families, and co-workers.
  • Use positive behavior reinforcement and developmentally appropriate guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior, informs supervisor if assistance is needed with behavior management, and provides documentation of inappropriate behavior.
  • Desire to work hard and play in the sun each and every day.
  • Report incidents of suspected child abuse to proper authorities.
  • Attend work on a regular basis, be reliable and punctual.
  • Be flexible and positive in an intense and dynamic work environment; utilize creative problem-solving within an intense, dynamic, and sometimes challenging environment.
  • Ability to make quick, rational decisions in situations affecting the safety and well-being of program participants and possess the ability to carry out such decisions.

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Minimum 460 hours of documented experience working with children.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and application of positive classroom management skills, positive reinforcement and child redirection.
  • Be able to obtain all trainings required to work in a licensed childcare environment (such as CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporter Training, Playground Safety, Injury Prevention and Medication Administration, as well as 15 hours of annual training provided by employer).
  • Pass TRAILS and CBI/FBI fingerprint background checks for working in licensed childcare.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to push, pull or balance. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 50 pounds unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 200 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires sense of smell and touch. Hearing must be adequate to hear patrons/co-workers communications up to 25 yards away. Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, exhibit manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects. Requires the ability to communicate verbally with both children and adults. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone, e-mail, and through face-to-face communication is needed.
