Job description

Part-Time High School Teacher-Tutors

Oxford Learning Cambridge Hespeler
Fall 2026 Openings

As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, Oxford Learning Cambridge Hespeler is seeking part-time teacher-tutors for positions that will become available throughout the fall of 2026 as student enrollment increases.

Our tutors gain valuable teaching experience while helping students build skills, confidence, and academic independence. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with teenagers, have strong subject knowledge, and are able to explain challenging concepts clearly and effectively.

Please note: This posting is for positions that will open in Fall 2026 for the 2026–2027 school year.

Key Attributes We Are Looking For

The strongest candidates will demonstrate the following:

  1. Strong subject proficiency
High school students often bring in the topic they are currently studying in class. Tutors must be comfortable jumping in and supporting students wherever they are in the course syllabus.
  2. The ability to explain concepts clearly
Tutors must be able to break down challenging material in a way that makes sense to a high school student, not simply at a university level.
  3. A positive personality and strong rapport with teens
A great sense of humour, patience, empathy, and an enjoyment of working with teenagers are essential.
  4. Commitment through the end of June
Students need consistent support throughout the school year, especially leading into final exams. Applicants must be willing to commit through June 30, 2027.

Qualified applicants who meet the above requirements are encouraged to apply. We will respond to candidates whose qualifications match our current and upcoming needs.

Position Overview

As a Teacher-Tutor at Oxford Learning, you will work with high school students in one or more of the following subject areas:

  • Mathematics, including advanced functions and calculus
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • English
  • French, if applicable

Our current hiring priorities, from highest to lowest, are:

  1. Math tutors
  2. Physics tutors
  3. Chemistry tutors
  4. Biology tutors
  5. English tutors

Ideally, candidates will be able to support students in more than one subject area.

At the high school level, Teacher-Tutors are expected to have the subject knowledge and confidence to support students with the material they bring from school. You will be trained in Oxford Learning’s proprietary philosophy and methods, allowing you to focus on what you do best: helping students understand, practise, and succeed.

Position Requirements

Candidates must be available during after-school and evening hours, typically between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Additional requirements include:

  • Commitment through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of continuing through the summer
  • In-person instruction only; this is not a virtual teaching position
  • Reliable transportation to our learning centre
  • No relocation package provided
  • Mandatory vulnerable sector screening

Education

Candidates should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field
  • Third-year or higher university standing, with tutoring experience, considered
  • Teaching certification, or progress toward teaching certification, considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of the current Ontario high school curriculum

Experience and Skills

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Experience teaching or tutoring students at the high school level, or equivalent experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • The ability to guide student understanding clearly and patiently
  • The ability to teach French, which is highly desirable
  • The ability to multitask and work with up to two students at a time
  • Reliability, professionalism, empathy, and a strong sense of humour

Responsibilities

As an Oxford Learning Teacher-Tutor, you will:

  • Teach up to two high school students at a time, primarily in Grades 10–12
  • Support students with current schoolwork, course concepts, skill development, and test preparation
  • Follow Oxford Learning methodologies and instructional approaches
  • Complete daily student communication updates
  • Contribute to monthly progress reports
  • Maintain a friendly, professional, encouraging, and student-focused learning environment

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $18.50 - $20.00 / hour

Schedule:

  • Evenings
  • Monday to Friday
