Job description

Open to internal and external candidates.

Internal candidates would include our certified staff.  

Position Summary:
The Track Team Assistant provides individualized support to a student with special needs participating in the school's track and field program. This role focuses on ensuring the student's safety, inclusion, and positive experience while promoting independence, skill development, and teamwork.

Starting Hourly Rate:  $15

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide  supervision and assistance students with disabilities during practices, meets, and team activities
  • Support students in understanding and following coaching instructions and routines
  • Assist with transitions (e.g., arriving at practice, moving between events, and departure)
  • Monitor the students' safety and well-being at all times
  • Adapt activities or instructions as needed to match the student's abilities and needs
  • Encourage social interaction with teammates and foster inclusion
  • Communicate regularly with coaches, parents/guardians, and school staff regarding progress or concerns
  • Help manage equipment and ensure the student is properly prepared for events
  • Reinforce positive behavior and sportsmanship

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals with special needs (preferred)
  • Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow directions from coaching staff and implement support strategies
  • Basic understanding of track and field activities (preferred but not required)
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to attend scheduled practices and meets
  • CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor track and field settings in varying weather conditions
  • After-school hours, with occasional weekend meets

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods
  • Ability to assist with light physical support if needed

Goal of the Position:
To ensure the student can safely and meaningfully participate in track and field while building confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging within the team.
