Job description

The responsibility of a Groundskeeper is to maintain the beauty of plants, outdoor grounds, and trees across multiple gardens and lawns. The Groundskeeper performs a range of general maintenance tasks including designing, producing, renewing and preserving outside spaces at the Chestnut Inn. The Groundskeeper works in collaboration with the garden design team, the maintenance, team, and department heads.
We are searching for a competent and reliable groundskeeper to maintain our company gardens and lawns. They will be responsible for all general maintenance tasks related to the garden and lawns including planting new trees, servicing garden machinery, mowing, weed whacking, snow/ice removal and conducting regular pruning.
To succeed in this role, you should be physically fit and able to manage small and heavy machinery. The ideal candidate will be friendly, professional and possess some knowledge of effective gardening techniques, lawn maintenance, and snow removal. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required. Weekends and holidays are a must.
The ideal candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule. One to two years of gardening and landscaping experience is a preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain and grow the garden to ensure it meets specific requirements and expectations
  • Perform basic maintenance such as pruning, cutting the grass, emptying bins, managing weed control and leaf raking
  • Plant and nurture new trees, flowers, and various plants
  • Mow, trim, edge, fertilize, water, and aerate lawns; prune and shape hedges and trees
  • Install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems; schedule watering to optimize plant health
  • Apply pesticides and herbicides safely; remove weeds and manage plant diseases
  • Prepare soil, apply mulch, and maintain landscape beds to support plant growth
  • Lawn Maintenance which includes mowing, weed whacking, and treating lawns
  • Safely operate mowers, tractors, leaf blowers, aerators, plows, and other landscaping tools; maintain equipment in good condition
  • Completed outdoor maintenance including lawn/garden maintenance and snow/ice removal
  • Perform all assigned tasks, coordinate with other landscaping professionals, and advise on landscape care
  • Follow OSHA regulations and safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Report equipment malfunctions, injuries, and accidents to the supervisor
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and securely stores equipment and supplies
  • Complete any reports or logs
  • Performs small repairs as assigned
  • Work with hand tools and basic light machinery such as plant vehicles, and small diggers
  • Service all garden equipment and machinery
  • Maintain a clean garden by clearing rubbish and litter from the garden and grounds
  • Provide guidance to supervisors on matters related to the garden, including inventory and ordering, safety, and horticultural needs
  • Ensure a safe environment for employees and clients by adhering to safety and health regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Utilize ticketing system to manage and complete work in timely and accurate manner

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 1-2 years of proven experience in a similar role preferred
  • Ability to handle a range of horticultural and lawn machinery and powered hand and riding tools.
  • Basic knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Solid understanding of health and safety rules and legislation.
  • Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Positive attitude
  • Able to work weekends, holidays, and some nights
  • Driver's license with reliable transportation

Salary Description
$17.00-$23.00
